What do you expect? How much does it cost? For those talking about free education in some Western countries, they achieve that by higher tax. Socialist countries charge their citizens high and in return provide those services. What percentage of Nigerians even pay tax at all? For the ones that pay, is it not still looted to build mansions abroad? I wish it was possible to privatise all these federal universities so that private investors would at least clean these schools up. But then, that equates to high school fees. That the average man probably wouldn't be able to pay. Universities need funding, and that's what people don't understand. Which prominent research are these federal universities doing to attract grants from private investors? In America the easiest ways to pay for University education are to either join the military or take a student loan that would probably take you 20 years to pay back. Which Nigerians would be willing to take that kind of loan (gets up to $40k per session) when they know that after graduation there are no jobs? At least there in the US just a small percentage of their adults go to the university but here in Nigeria everyone wants to be a graduate, not because of passion but because you can't earn a living with waec result. I don't know how to explain it sef, I'm just ranting right now. Dont know if Im making any sense anymore. The situation with education (and most other things in Nigeria) is a circle of failure. I wonder what it'll take to make this country actually work.

You are making sense..I am for higher school fees..I hate anything socialism..At least in a federal university the least that should be paid should be nothing less than 100,000naira..Maybe that would stop this craze of wanting to go to university by every tom, dick and harry..

People should be sentized to learn a trade or something right from jss3..This university craze should be stopped once and for all..

Education isn't cheap...Tertiary Sch fees should be increased..As long as you got good education in nursery and secondary school you are good to go..

The school is waiting for one of our past presidents, VPs, or governors to buy it up!

From the proceeds of corruption, of course.

Yet, the poor masses are playing kid gloves with corruption that has ravaged the soul of the nation!

Sit down there make you de look!

The below pictures show how tattered a room inside one of the hostels in Obafemi Awolowo University is.

The pictures were shared by a Facebook user who claims OAU campus is now looking like an IDP Camp.

Maintenance culture is also key.
I went to government school and visited a private hostel and school.
As a student you can 'Behind' your corner or room.
Some people are not tidy, neat and have non challenge attitude to things that are not theirs.
In d private school I visited d hostel, the student repainted her corner to her taste and put ceiling fan and other decorative things.
For the private hostel i visited in a public school, the student arranged the room to look almost like a home- homely, cozy and in order.
In the public schools i went including during service year, I made the best of the little i had.
I had no money or interest in floor carpet, fan or others, but I put d basics (net and light), swept often, put bedsheets and arranged regularly.
These pictures show people who are nonchalant and disorganised.
sad angry cry

So it is now the government's responsibility to help sweep and tidy ur rooms abi?
Seriously, I don't see the fuss here. What needs to be done is proper maintenance of things and the building need new paints both interior and exterior.

You made a lot of sense my brother.. The truth is that education is not encouraged in this part of the world system and that's why our educational system is in shambles.

What do you expect from a Nation where the president himself flew his children abroad to school there?
