There is a letter, written by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in circulation. The letter details infractions against his office by the Group MD of NNPC, Maikanti Baru. These include insubordination and a number of illegalities carried out by Baru. A line in the letter even suggested he is being prevented from having an audience with Mr. President!

Yes, it is possible Kachikwu will be eventually sacrificed on the altar of bringing in a 'proper' Niger Delta personality on board in an imminent cabinet reshuffle.


That will also add more fuel to the raging inferno about mistrust of Buhari where issues concerning his kinsmen are concerned.
Not too long ago, the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, made a similar allegation against the CG of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd), who regularly treats his supervising minister as an inferior unworthy of reporting to.

Till date, there has been no reprimand to the erring CG from The Presidency. It was also alleged that the CG packaged a Bill through a minion for the National Assembly to enact a law making the NCS directly responsible to Mr. President, instead of taking instructions from the Minister of Finance. In a normal situation Ali would have been shown the way out.

These are not issues that should sit well with a quality leadership interested in genuine national integration. It smacks of telling people from certain parts of the country "to know their place while relating with ethnically superior Nigerians." It is divisive. It is unpatriotic. It is retrogressive. It smacks of the negative 'born to rule' mentality, which many of those agitating for restructuring are angry with.

A timely reaction from The Presidency should be quality positive PR in the face of persistent claims that an ethnic Cabal has seized the jugular of President Muhammadu Buhari's Administration. We need to be persuaded that this is not so.
