Kogi State House of Assembly has debunked the rumour making round that the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has requested for N10 billion loans, stressing that such request never came before the Assembly for approval.

This was disclosed in a press conference addressed by the House Committee Chairman on Information, Hon. Sunday Shigaba at the Assembly Complex, Lokoja.

He said the 6th Assembly was shocked to read the malicious and satanic publication online trying to rubbish and tarnish the good image of Kogi State House Assembly, stressing that as far as the House of Assembly is concerned under the leadership of Rt. Hon. (Prince) M.O. Kolawole, the Governor never sent any letter requesting for approval of N10 billion loan.

Hon. Shigaba said since there were no request ab initio, the story of N200 million bribes or kick back for the Honourable Members and the Speaker is baseless as such, the information should be disregarded.

According to him, it has become necessary for the house to clear the air on some of these issues despite the resolution of the house yesterday to petition the Police and DSS for the author to provide documents to back up his claims.

The Committee Chairman also added that any member of the House of Assembly have the right and choice to decide whichever party he or she can belong, pointing out that it is legitimate right of Hon. Idris Ndako to abandon his former party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It is also the prerogative of every member by constitutionally guaranteed right to association to decide which party they want to belong and hence such is not generating any controversy within the house.

He said there is neither a crack nor crisis within the current leadership under Rt. Hon. Kolawole and the House as a whole, stressing that those insinuating crisis are only doing that for selfish reasons.

He said change of leadership did not arise at any point, calling on Kogites and the general public to support and have faith in the 6th Assembly that is working with the Executive to fast track overall development of the State.

Meanwhile, the former Deputy Speaker and Member Representing Omala State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Akuh has moved a Motion with number 08, “Appealing to the President, Federal Republic Of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari to Establish Federal Secretariat Complex In Kogi State”.

The Lawmaker further said it has become imperative for Kogi State like other States in the Federation to have her own share of a Federal Secretariat Complex in Lokoja where federal ministries, departments and agencies can have a central place to carry out their constitutional responsibilities as it relates to the State.

He said it is interesting to note that States created alongside and after Kogi State already have their own Federal Secretariat project ongoing, noting that it is about time the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari approve the building of Federal Secretariat in Kogi State.

He said the establishment of Federal Secretariat in Kogi State will enhance employment opportunities for Kogites and also boost economic activities in the State as regards the Federal Staffs that will be domiciled in the State thereby increasing the revenue generation of the State.

The Chief Whip and Member Representing Ijumu State Constituency described the motion as timely and long overdue for Kogi State to have its own share of the Federal edifice, pointing out that work are going in States like Nassarawa, Bayelsa, and Zamfara while Kwara State already have a fully established secretariat in the State Capital, Ilorin.

The House in their resolution appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to establish a Federal Secretariat Complex in Lokoja, Kogi State and that the resolution be forwarded to the Hon. Minister representing Kogi State at the Federal Executive Council and Kogi State federal lawmakers, drawing their attention to this development and urging them to use their good offices in facilitating the establishment of Federal Secretariat Complex in the State Capital.

The House also urge the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to follow up the resolution by presenting it before the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria for action.
