After living in a developed country for sometime, some people only start to see the negatives of that country and believe Nigeria can't be much worse. They start to feel Nigeria is not as bad as it seems due to the short holidays they spend in Nigeria ever year.
I know some people that have made the move back to Nigeria, most after college and they seriously regret it. Even the one that is somewhat comfortably in Lagos is battling and doing everything he can to relocate to Canada. I won't say more than that.

Same thing with living abroad, after a while you notice it is not heaven on earth then it's up to your personal decision to chose the lesser of two evils, live abroad and be faced with racism and other things that stagnate your growth and ambition or stay in Nigeria and cope with whatever comes. That's an individuals personal decision, why are you so pained?

Bro with all this things and you are still in Australia with your family. Are you saying there is no good aspect of the said country you are talking about.

All countries in the universe have their own flaws. But you know why, you only look at the merits and de-merits or if you like the benefits of such country.
I believe that the merits of residing in Australia outways the de-merits.
Mind you, Australia began experiencing a high number of black race in their country in the last ten years and as such you don't expect the country to be populated by blacks, but gradually is happening with high influx of black race through education, business and family re-union.

Their is no country without an atom of racism. You can talk about your country, what is happening?.. is every thing alright with them.
Bro! Ignore those niggas and focus.
Even America of all country, are they free of racism?..

Be focus bro!!. Goodluck in your life endeavor.

So after investing millions and moving his family, changing jobs and school for his kid he should just run back to Nigeria without preparing himself, what do you think his family and friends will think of him? Stop being emotional about his decision, it's not your business, he only expressed himself no need to be rude

Ehya..welcome back to motherland in advance, there are plenty jobs of course and home is the best..abi now?..i would have loved to hear the good sides of melbourne from you as well...because i am consideri f moving there as moat of what i get are good reports...where do you stay if you dont mind me asking so that some of us can be guided

On another note naija is big on tribalism and nepotism which is on the same scale with rasicm or even worse (afterall we are all blacks in Nigeria you get?)...i learnt to live with different tribes and thier shenanigans so same can be applied to different races..

Racism is much different from tribalism. You can't hide your race but you can hide your tribe.

I commend everyone for the keen spirit and Goodwill.
One way or the other, you folks have contributed to my success; consciously or otherwise.

This is my 4th Month in Australia as a migrant (189) and I must say it's one of the most thoughtful decisions I have ever made asides getting a spouse.
With the permission of my ogas I would like to drop the full gist/ timeline in the other room.

However, a simple breakdown goes thus:
Arrived Melbourne 10/10/17
Got my Professional job 23/10/17 without aussie local experience/ driver's licence.
Got my first paycheck 08/11/17(the rate is grin)
Currently working in Sydney on a major capital Metro project.
I give God all glory and honour......

PS: for those still wondering and pondering about the distance and uncertainties; a piece of advice mate# " there are no guarantees in life, but if you dare to conquer your fears, you shall excel beyond your imagination".

You will never hear the truth from people living in a country. Majority will deceive you by painting a rosy and wonderful pic of the country they live whereas they are suffering in silence. I’m not saying everybody is not successful in Australia but a lot of people, especially immigrants are having it tough. It is better to lower your expectations of what Australia is and what it has to offer.
I see amongst Nigerians especially on this forum and similar forums, it is the good side of Australia that is projected. Go online, especially amongst Indians, people have expressed their opinions in a way I have done today to warn prospective immigrants. There’s a lot at stake, there’s a lot to weigh. I know Nigeria is bad right now and all we want to do is escape the “sh** hole”

Why will you decide to put up with a country that is worse than the one you came from?

The prudent thing to do is to start the process of returning back to your home country. Granted that it will not be done overnight but the process is shorter than the initial immigration process. You can always go back home if your mind is made up.

I believe this is worth sounding here:

Prepare yourself sufficiently by way of research and education before embarking on the high stakes project of immigration. Be clear, in as specific terms as possible about what it is you are looking for. In addition, arm yourself with the mindset and attitude of an achiever, knowing that you may encounter difficulties along the way but with confidence grounded in reality you will succeed.

Otherwise, stay back in Nigeria.

Why am I so pained I'd have given you the answer you deserve but I could get banned so I'll let it pass. I only gave him my advice and told him I've had people that did the same thing he wants to do and regret it. If those people were adviced the same way we are advising this guy, they wouldn't be regretting by now. Anyone that cannot progress in those countries because of racism cannot and I repeat cannot achieve anything meaningful in Nigeria.
I don't even know you'd still be advising anyone to relocate to Nigeria till this moment. I used to think you stopped commenting on this travel threads because Nigeria is gradually becoming a country you cannot defend.
Anyways I'm not here to bad mouth Nigeria or list the problems with it, I'm sure you know everything deep down inside you but you're used to the decay in this country. You've never been to any of these countries so you wouldn't know the advantages of living in an organized society.
The guy is free to take whatever decision he wants to, all I'm doing is to advise him. Whatever decision he takes, he should think of his kids before he takes it.

Hi Alphadoor and azy123 please I'm still battling with ACS.

They just replied my application recommending I change my anzco code to ICT engineer.
I applied for developer programmer which is what I'm doing right now but I was an ICT engineer.

Please what do you advice?

What's the consequence beside the money?

- Yes internet is "slow" but they do have a valid 'excuse' cause Australia is bloody far from everywhere. And the NBN is one massive failure. That said, the government is definitely working on this because it's affecting the business side of things.

- Shops close at 5pm? You mean on Sundays? And which ones? Sounds patronizing but shouldn't people enjoy themselves on a weekend? Shops closing at 5pm no mean say the employees get to leave at 5pm

- Racism? Well, only God protects.
And yeah, why don't you try Russia for size?

- Blackouts? Please name one country that has never experienced a blackout?

Coming into a country and expecting the road to be made of gold, rose and whatever isn't the best approach. In fact, atimes, it's best to prepare for the unknown, do your very best and pray that the Heavens smile on you.

I’m only voicing out my experience of living in Australia for the last 13 months. Melbourne is nothing but a huge disappointment.
Crime is on the increase. I was personally a victim of crime twice within 6 months of arrival.
Racial prejudices is high here compared to most

Baba mi, I don't know what suburb you are in but mehn, from this description, your area rugged gaan o... But the thing is, there's no country or city in the world that doesn't have have rugged Hood zones....

I'm in Syd... And the suburb where I live, the peace of mind no be small thing... Man dey forget car for street for days and nothing go do am... Man dey walk for street at 2am and nothing dey happen...

However, less than 20km away in Bankstown, no news wey pesin no dey hear from there... Na for Bankstown dem shoot pesin in broad daylight about two weeks ago... Na there dem stab police officer... The one wey funny to me pass, I hear say pesin park Range Rover for broad daylight.. Go do shopping... come back.. All the wheels and alloy rims dey missing..

As for racism, in my experience, most of the discrimination comes from fellow immigrants especially Asians. The Australians really no send pesin...

These other countries you've been to, I for like sabi whether you lived in them or went on holidays... Cos there's a big difference between the two.. If you were holidaying in Mel, trust me, you would only have experienced the best of the best... Cos, of course you'll bring big money. You'll stay in good hotels, you'll only visit tourist attractions.

... When I was living in the United Kingdom, I couldn't stand the high and mighty attitudes of the British and the subtle discrimination from all the other Europeans... Despite the fact that Europeans are more familiar with black faces...

I'm really sorry about your experiences, but if you have this impression of Australia , I really don't want to know what you'll say about the United States where as a black person, your biggest threat na the trigger-happy police themselves...

Just thought I'd drop my opinion..

I think its fair to respect the poster's opinion as this is his own view of the situation.

To be honest, if you are well travelled, you might not be exactly impressed when you get to Australia and this is how I felt when I got here but I guess its because I put Australia in the league of America but I have since reset that in my head. Having read online that Melbourne was one of the most livable cities in the world, you can imagine how high my expectations were when I visited, only for me to get there and see that the trains and stations could do with some very good cleaning! (a far cry from what obtains in Sydney) and I just generally felt like I was visiting the countryside because the shopping centres, city centre etc were not what I expected at all(again, this is my own opinion).

Regarding the crime thing, more incidents seem to be reported there than anywhere else so again, the poster is not wrong here.

Overall, I think its best to manage our expectations when coming to this country and maybe its also a good idea to actually explore different cities before eventually deciding where to live, and make our judgements based on specific personal factors that are important to us as individuals.

@adeyinkaseun please don't go home just yet, as bellong said, you can explore Perth and you should pay a visit to Sydney too. All the best!

Near unrealistic High Expectations is what most people get disappointed about. It's like you are planning your holiday having browsed through the page of a glossy brochure. It's never always what you think. I've got an American colleague here and he loves it in Australia.

There is a system in place with its faults and shortcomings but it works most times. Heck I'm yet to find a better country that really takes care of it disadvantaged/disabled as much as Australia.

The only is that yeah, things are crazy expensive. cheesy

Why are you mad because somebody gave his opinion? As Bellong has pointed out, you can either learn from it or ignore it. Do you live in Australia? Can you write a rebuttal to my write-up without throwing tantrums like a 4 year old? Your uncivilized attitude and that of many on this forum is what makes Nigeria unlivable. You always fail to respect other people’s opinion.

Thank you Bellong, Hephziebah, Catchdwind4rmkd,Pidginf and Vinsmuft for your mature contributions.

Yes, maybe I sounded too negative. That was not intended. Also not intended was using my opinion to dissuade prospective Aussie immigrants, especially Nigerians. I wanted to use my experience to reduce the culture shock experienced by immigrants when they get to Australia.

As for those mocking and childishly asking me to go back to Nigeria, well let me tell you something. There’s a stage you get in life when you have to define where happiness lies and what it truly means.

AdeyinkaSeun ,

I must commend your opinion, however, I must say that there are a lot of sufferings here in Nigeria, and the system here is not working to the benefit of the masses. In your first write up, you made mention of experiencing blackout just twice for the 13 months you've been in Australia. Bro that's a whole lot and I must you are living in heaven . Here in Nigeria, we don't have light more than 3 hours a day. Most time the majority do go to bed without light and the heat alone can burn one to death. If we can have light even for 6 hours straight we will be thanking God.

Aside that, let's look at jobs opportunities here in Nigeria. It is nothing to write about. People that have graduated from school for 5 years now, they have never gotten a job. And I don't think that is same in Australia. All the nairalanders members that have migrated so far, most got their first professional jobs that same month they landed. Others two months later, while still others, just within 2 weeks of landing. But that can't happen here in Nigeria. There are jobless graduates all over the streets of Nigeria looking for jobs for the past 4, 5, 6 and 7 years but to no avail.

To me if it takes one just 3 or even 4 months before landing a job in Australia, that's not enough to condemn the system, rather if you compare it critically with how things are here in Nigeria, you will appreciate the system and thank God for the opportunity which many persons have been wishing to be in.

There is a system in place to protect your rights there but here in Nigeria there is none. No matter the situation you face there, it can never be worse than the one we are experiencing here in Nigeria.

Bro make use of this opportunity and prosper in the land.

Guys please let's save all these insults for our naija politicians and not ourselves. They are the reason why some of us are here discussing how to relocate to Australia angry. I just read on the news where one of them recently came to court on a stretcher grin

Moving on...

Since this forum is about living in Australia, I need to sound a note of warning. If you are coming here newly and are about to engage in a factory job that requires lifting load several times in a day, you must protect your back from injuries. You can do this by getting a back support belt from Bunnings Warehouse. You should also practise correct manual handling techniques like bending at your knees when lifting stuff. Nobody told me all this until after I had gotten an injury to my lower back. Even though I had stopped this type of work for six months now, I had a relapse last weekend and couldn't stand up for two days! undecided No be small thing
