They sell your chating details to ads companies who provide you with target ads. Thesam thing mobile companies like Nokia do |

geunik: WhatsApp is an énd2end encrypted chat, it's free, you only pay for internet connection. They don't sell your chat details, they don't even see it. The packets are sent btw p2p connection and encrypted before leaving the TCP client decrypted on arrival to the end connection. If you want to understand how that work, study web services. Check VB.net framework too. 2 Likes |

Moneyfem: They don't make money on the consumer product. They have a new product called Whatsapp for Business and they make money on that. Whatsapp is owned by Facebook and their profit comes from Facebook. 1 Like |

Perhaps its original founder sold it to Facebook because he was not making money from it. |

Whatsapp is not really making profit at the moment on clear business terms according to most expert reports. However the app is helping facebook generate loads of data that will help the company in further expansion of its business. Consider the fact that according to investopedia.com, loads of your personal data including contact details are stored on Facebook servers. Of course Facebook has denied ever having intentions of using the data to streamline its advertising, but the question is can anyone actually stop him completely if he wants to? Remember the recent whatsapp updates that asked you to synchronise your whatsapp with facebook? Did you ever read the terms or imagine how that will affect your privacy? In the digital world, we say data is life. So the data of over 1.5 billion whatsapp users is enough money on its own even if whatsapp wasn't making a cent. Again, I'm of the personal opinion that in the nearest future, like facebook you may have to be paying for whatsapp features. For example, the whatsapp group features etc. (of course this is just my opinion). Furthermore, whatsapp holds so much promises for its owners when it comes to profit making. And yes, they are taking their time. |

Moneyfem: Before Facebook acquired WhatsApp, they were charging $1/year from users except those from third world countries. And as at then, they still had millions of users, you do the math. After its acquisition, FB made WhatsApp free. They're still testing out different monitization techniques. |

tennyalad:whatsapp doesn't make money from whatsapp business. The business app is similar to the ordinary whatsapp. Just a few changes. Op for now whatsapp makes zero profit but I think as time goes on it may start showing ads, |
Re: How Whatsapp Makes Its Money by kryptochats: 2:01pm On Dec 30, 2018 |
for now they don't make any profit , before the GDPR stuff they used to sell users data to advert agencies and companies . but in past news facebook is still looking into implementing ads on WhatsApp. even till now so many of this websites still monitor your data , that is why when you search for something online like example . refrigerator prices and later visit a website that has adsense ads on it , you begin to see refrigerator ads from sites that sell refrigerator |

Since there are still no ads on the app, it is like they make money digitally in a way that is not physically visible. That is why digitally inclined businesses are the most profitable in this age. The top richest people in the world are into digital businesses. |
Re: How Whatsapp Makes Its Money by Premiumwriter: 12:53pm On Mar 08, 2020 |
Moneyfem:what are you sayin right now? It's mostly likely that WhatsApp does not make any money because it does not sell ads. It also does not share users data or chat. The only upside is that WhatsApp is the fastest growing social media app. This alone keeps investors trust and it'll always gain investors. If targeted ads are later implemented, whatsapp might become one of the highest grossing app from Facebook because its current user base is larger than Facebook and messenger and its getting almost a million new users per day. So see WhatsApp as a goldmine waitin to be explored but at the moment, investors money and faith is the only thing keeping it alive or except Zuckerberg is selling user's data secretly |

It's like the situation still remains as it is. Does Whatsapp make money as an independent business now? |
