Hold On To Your Accords - Prices May Go Up (Updated) by BizBooks(m): 6:51pm On Mar 12, 2010
I participate in the weekly auction of Honda Financial Services Remarketing, a branch of American Honda. In the past 1 - 2 months, I have noticed a dramatic increase in the price of Accords especially 2005 - 2007.

Accords that used to have a starting bid of $7000 now start at $8500 or more. This may be because more buyers are flocking to Honda due to Toyota's problems. I have not won a car in the past one month despite the fact that I submit reasonable offers.

It is likely that fewer Accords will be shipped to Nigeria in the coming months and this may result in an increase in price. Below are the starting bids for the first five cheapest 2006 and 2007 Accords that will be sold on Monday March 15, 2010. These starting bids are beyond me, so I will not even place a bid. But I will update this thread on Monday with final selling prices.

P.S: When it comes to Hondas, nobody beats Honda Financial Services Remarketing. Their prices are usually $1000 cheaper.

2007 Honda Accord 2.4 SE  1HGCM55337A118227 $8,600 (Starting Bid)  Sold for $8700
2007 Honda Accord 2.4 LX   JHMCM564X7C021504 $8,800 (Starting Bid) Sold for $8800
2007 Honda Accord EX        1HGCM56737A053607 $9,000 (Starting Bid)  Sold for $9200
2007 Honda Accord 2.4 LX  1HGCM56477A037948 $9,000 (Starting Bid)   No Sale
2007 Honda Accord 2.4 LX  1HGCM56457A111707 $9,000 (Starting Bid)   Sold for $9000

******************************************************

2006 Honda Accord LX        1HGCM56316A047932 $7,500 (Starting Bid)  Sold for $8300
2006 Honda Accord 2.4 LX  1HGCM56456A041334 $7,800 (Starting Bid)   Sold for $8600
2006 Honda Accord 2.4 EX  1HGCM56796A088358 $8,200 (Starting Bid)   No Sale
2006 Honda Accord 2.4 EX  1HGCM56706A138127 $9,000 (Starting Bid)   No Sale
2006 Honda Accord LX        1HGCM72356A010335 $9,300 (Starting Bid)  No Sale

Above is the result of the Honda auction held on March 15, 2010. From this sample, 4 out of 5 2007 Accords were sold at prices ranging from $8700 to $9200. If you do the math, the average selling price amounts to $8925 each (plus other expenses if you wish to get one to Lagos).

For the 2006 Accord, 2 out of 5 were sold at prices ranging from $8300 to $8600. The average selling price came up to $8450 (plus other costs). As I said before, nobody can beat Honda's price. If someone tries to sell you a similar model at a cheaper price, it will most likely be salvage or junk.

One of the 2007 Accords up for auction on Monday March 15, is an EX Leather with Navigation (see pictures below). The starting bid is $9000, but it may sell for less than $10,000.

If you want it, I can get it for you at cost price and charge only a $500 commission for my efforts.

Nice one BizBOOKs, how about shipping and clearing cost?

@ Lanre_s,

The good thing about US shipping companies is that they charge a flat rate for all cars. It doesn't matter if it is a 2000 or 2010 model. The problem is clearing at Lagos Ports. So for a 2007 Accord, you are looking at:

$500 or more (depending on location) - Ships car from auction to Port
$1100 - Ships car from US to Lagos
$375 - Container Tracking Note (CTN), recently introduced by Nigeria Customs
N400,000 - Clearing at Lagos Port (give or take a few thousand)
Plus courier and bank fees.
