The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba said the present generation of staff of the institution has been called to build.
The Vice Chancellor made this known during an interdenominational church service organized recently to mark the commencement of the 2017/2018 academic session at the University auditorium.
“Please, let us carry the cross of this University; the cross of sacrifice. The cross of defining a new culture for the University – where people will be found worthy in character and in learning
“If we continue in our present path, this University will be a place everyone will be proud of in the nearest future”, he stated.

Going down memory lane, Nwajiuba noted that modern University was a creation of Christianity, adding that it was therefore important to always recognize the place of God in a University. He however, opined that this recognition is a matter of choice as University is composed of people with diverse beliefs and therefore urged staff of the institution to be above board in the performance of their official responsibilities especially in their relationship with students.
“God is actually a scientist. If you look at the biblical account of the encounter between Elijah and the prophets of Baal, you will see that it met all the requirements of a proper scientific investigation…”
He continued: “Take a good look at the families of those who welcomed Christian missionaries in those days and those of former teachers who did their work without blemishes and you will see some light, no matter their challenges.”

The Vice Chancellor also used the occasion to express his gratitude to staff for their dedication to duty despite the shortfall in their salaries, adding that their money would surely be paid to them.
“I thank you for your sacrifices and urge you to continue making more sacrifices for the good of our University.”
He maintained that despite the less than wonderful circumstances, the University has continued to excel in various areas and stressed that the prompt graduation of students and forwarding of their names to NYSC for mobilization, improved quality of the students and their ability to access their results and certificates without hassles as some of the achievements of the University in the last academic year.
He equally commended the FUNAI Parents’ Forum for their various support geared towards developing the University.
The highpoint of the event was a prayer session for the continuous growth and development of the University and protection of its staff. It was led by the Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, Ikwo District, Rev. Dr. Simon Igwe.
