MAKU APPEAL TO PRESIDENT BUHARI TO INVESTIGATE SIGNING OF PV WITHOUT PAYMENT IN NASARAWA STATE

Mr Labaran Maku, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to investigates the intimidation of civil servants to sign Pay Vouchers (PV) without payment of salaries in Nasarawa State.

Maku who is the National Secretary of All Progressives Alliance (APGA) and a former Minister of Information, made the call on Friday while addressing newsmen in Obi Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the intimidation of civil servants in the state by the Nasarawa State Government to either sign PV or risk being sack from service is suspicious.

“The government through the Head of Civil Service announced that September Salaries would be paid through table payment.

“Meaning that civil servants would be paid as soon as they are screened by whoever is responsible for it.

“But instead of paying them at the point of the screening as it was announced by the government, the workers were compelled to sign the PVs without being paid,” he explained.

He explained that in any table payment an accountant would be sitting there and immediately any staff is verified the accountant is directed to pay such person.

He accused the state government for intimidating civil servants to sign so as to mislead the Federal Government that the state is not owing workers salaries.

Maku also appealed to that an Economic State of Emergency be declare in Nasarawa since the government was unable to pay salaries despite the bailout, Paris Club Refund, Loans, Internally Generated Revenue and monthly allocations.

He said that the Federal Government and the National Assembly should constitute a committee to be head by traditional rulers to release whatever monies mend to pay salaries in the state.

“Since the governor is not interested in the welfare of workers, this committee should be made to handle a potion of money coming to the state to pay salaries of workers,” Maku added.

He said that the labour union and the House of Assembly in the state are crippled by the government that they can even talk on the welfare of workers again.

He therefore called on the President and the National Assembly to act fast and save the people of the state from a very terrible administration.

The Nasarawa State Government on October 6, 2017 in a statement signed by the then Acting Head of Service, Yairus Dagusa, said September salaries would be table payment. Also reports that the statement said the Governor would personally supervise the payment of staff of Government House, his Deputy and Commissioners would do same in their respective establishments.

The statement was quoted that this is not intended to conduct another screening exercise, but was aimed at having proper records of staff for the purpose of paying them what is due for them.
