Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
Hysterosalpingogram is an X-ray test, using a contrast dye to view any obstruction in the fallopian tubes. The dye is inserted through a thin tube that is placed up through the vagina, into the uterus.

Filling the uterus with this dye will then spill into the fallopian tubes. X-rays are then taken to determine if there is an injury or abnormal shape of the uterus and fallopian tubes, including obstruction in the tubes.

This test is the number one test performed to determine if there is a blockage in the fallopian tubes.

Blockages may be caused by factors ranging to long term infections to endometrosis or Pelvic inflammatory disease.

Blockages can either be bilateral (both tubes) or unilateral (one tube)
