To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, just multiply the temperature by 1.8 and then add 32 to the result. To convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 from the number and then divide the difference by 1.8. So for Fahrenheit, the freezing temp is 32. One day last week it was -11 F(-23 C) here in Chicago. No be joke!

BlowJobs:

lol, i still don't understand the F that much. C is easier. 8degreesC tells me that is it cold but not bad. 0degreesC and below tells me that if is freaking cold and toes can go numb. That F might be 13degrees and when you go out, it is like batshit crazy!!!

Yes, snow are heavy when filled in bags. its just like bag of garri.

from my personal experience without consulting google. Snow is frozen rain but so light it falls from the sky like feather. You know that Ice that easily dissolves when you touch the inner part of your freezer, that is exactly what we have falling from the sky.
The problem is that the temperature is so cold that when they fall, they don't easily melt. They accumulate.

Just like we have heavy rainfall in Nigeria (between June to End of september/october), you know the rain that starts slowly (not heavy) and won't stop for days, that is the bad part about the snow. They accumulate everywhere and cars cannot easily pass and it also reduces visibility.

The other bad thing about it is that Days after a snow fall, temperature increases and the snow melts. Then, temperature drops and the melting snow fuses together and become ice. Now, ice is more dangerous that snow cos you'll definitely fall walking on ice and cars will skid off the road driving on ice. Also, it is harder to get rid of the snow when they turn to ice.

you know what happens when you touch a hot object like "hotplate", same thing happen when you touch a really cold object (especially metal like Ratchet used for changing tyres left outside in the cold), it gets so cold, it will burn your skin.

The only good thing i have seen about winter is the first snow, everyone is happy and then the pictures you take are so beautiful no matter how ugly you look grin. Everybody hates WINTER. i've never seen someone that liked it.

ps: it gets so cold that your fingers are toes start burning to a stage while you can no longer feel them and then advance to where you can't bend your fingers. you'd can literally freeze to death within an hour.
., thanks for the breakdown and Pics cool

If you have a fiance/boyfriend/girlfriend that is a US citizen and it is looking promising and really serious, I think you both should look into the form I-130 (I-130, Petition for Alien Relative - USCIS)

He/ she can file a petition for you and when the petition is approved (usually takes between 2-5months), you can go to the US embassy or consulate close to you to get a K1 visa which allows you to come to the US and finish the other process of becoming a permanent resident here in the US.

it is a straightforward process.

anyone that is connected to the US through relationship to a USC can look into this. it is 2018 people!!!

Its Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) and not
form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative

My Mistake

People, see it is I-129F.

you can start looking into the form and what you need even before you meet your supposed fiance or something. Just to get an idea of what you need.

Who knows tomorrow?

Hello uncle BJ.

Just bumped into this thread yesterday and i must confess it's content filled, for most of us without a silver spoon, the hustle is what we are called out for.

Please i have few questions i will like to ask, have read this thread from start to finish like my life depends on it, but then, you are the the boss here.

Can one get interns placement as nigerian and from nigeria?

The summer work time for nigeria from the table you shared is from june-oct, must this time frame be followed considering the inconsistency in our education system.

What do you think about the AU pair category in the j1 visa? Is it viable and possible especially for people from nigeria.

Does one need school i.d or transcript to apply for the summer work category, cause this is my final year in a nigeria uni and the calender is so tight, no holiday till we graduate by august ( by God's grace)

Also, apart from flight and visa application fees, can you state an amount needed to maintain oneself till one starts work.

Also, for the summer ish, how does one get accommodation?

Sorry if i am asking too many questions but i was actually at the verge of canadian skilled Lab. Stuff before now and i think i should run one or two stuff here before i finally go there if i get approved.

This is cause from all you have said here, it seems getting a permanent residence permit is very difficult in US, i think canada will be better but their weather is something i think about alot.

Thanks as i await your response!!

I have never met anyone from Africa (except maybe south Africa) that applied from any African country

Yes, you have done your assignment. It is from June to October and it is strictly followed. it is not the Department of state's or US Embassy's problem about the inconsistency in our Education Calendar

Also, you will need transcript. It is one of the requirement. They want to see you are doing well in school (it is part of what will make you return to your home country or country of residence). Most of the time, embassy do not even check your transcript. They don't even ask you any interview related question. they just tell you when to pick up your visa. The Sponsored organizations will do their own pre screening interview and make sure you are qualified to receive the Visa. The most important thing of the program is that the agency issues you the documents you need to take to the embassy.

You will be required to have at least 1000usd with you (not compulsory. my first time in the US few years ago, i had around 260$ with me)

you sort out flight yourself and the visa fees. you already paid the sponsored organizations fees including insurance. The organization sorts out accommodation for you (they are responsible for you so they have to take care of you). You have within some certain days to travel once your visa is issued. Also, most of the time, you start work immediately. the first time i came here on the program, i started work plus training (prep cook) the next day (no time grin)

The major problem with Nigeria and almost all African countries is that the sponsored organizations listed on the Department of States website do not have any branch offices or partners in African countries. This is one of the advantage i got while living in the Caribbean (it is one of the advantages Nurses, doctors and other health professionals get working in the Caribbean. they easily get jobs in western countries). The sponsored organization are suppose to interview you, make sure you are qualified, do pre-screening before issuing you the documents you need to take to the embassy. Embassy interview is the least of the requirement. If you get the documents from the organizations, then you will most likely get the visa.

Also, i will encourage you to look more into canada. Like i always say, doesn't matter what weather. Choose a country that will give you Permanent residency over country you will need to renew visa over and over.

Not necessary you join an association.

But joining an association similar to the conference you want to attend gives your Visa application more validity. (read the thread again i made mention of how i got my Visit Visa).

You do know family based affects C09 category.

What then happens?

It might also mean that when i naturalize, i might not be able to bring my parents here.

I need them here gor health reasons. My dad is already having signs that his health isn't well managed.

In my own opinion, the AOS will always be there and nothing will happen to it. The only thing I think that can be the problem is the chain based immigration(filing for siblings or parents). As far as other is concerned, You have no problem. You file, You get your work authorization then your green card and you will be be fine.

One thing I hate about this AOS is it makes you worry so much about little things and always checking for immigration news lol.

You don't have to be worried, You will just be fine

on what visa did you get to the usa. If so how did you manage to date a USC for two years without overstaying your visa?
BlowJobs:
Hey all.

I haven't seen this type of thread on Nairaland. Been thinking of creating this for a while now so people (everyone) in similar situations will have a guide.
I noticed that Immigrant visa threads here mostly is about people that their Immediate family filed for them (father, mother, siblings etc).
what about the rest of us with no immediate family that are citizens?. What about people getting married to a USC?.
This thread will focus on adjustment of status (B1/B2, J1, F1, H1b etc) to PR through marriage to a USC
Kindly note that i am not married to my gf yet. We have been dating now close to 2 years (will be 2 years in few days grin grin) and it has been awesome (it does have its ups and down too grin grin). we finally decided it is time [s](well she convinced me beyond reasonable doubt..lol)[/s] and we are gonna get marry pretty soon.
So i was like "why not create a thread to document the journey for others to gain one or two things and also to get advise about paperwork amnd how to file for adjustment.

Kindly note that : Marrying a USC for the sole purpose of gaining a permanent stay is illegal and seen as Immigration fraud and it is a deportable (if there's a word like that) offense. I AM NOT and DO NOT encourage anyone to do that (Marriage fraud) for the purpose of staying in the US. (if you do am, na your own wahalah)

I do however wanna share my story and journey for the purpose of enlightenment and encouragement and also to get various inputs WITHOUT giving out personal details

I will be updating the thread as events unfolds and juicy backstory plus all the hustling too
