One word bandied about each blessed day like most words we often use without a wholesome appreciation of their depth, for what it's worth is 'Investment'.
For a start, the English dictionary extract from Wiktionary defines investment as ;
The act of investing or state of being invested;
A placement of capital in expectation of deriving income or profit from its use or appreciation.
There are two more definitions but let us examine these two which relates to the subject matter of money, income or benefit that I want to focus on today.
Investment is taken from the word, "invest" which also from the English dictionary definition means;
To spend money, time or energy on something, especially for some benefit or purpose;
To put on, to envelop, wrap, cover;
To commit money or capital to something in the hope of financial gain; or
To formally give power or authority to something;
Fantastic explanatory definitions, isn't it? Pause here a bit and study carefully the above definitions. It would be clear to you that investment is far more than committing money to something.
Money does not grow on its own. In a structured business system that is accountable and transparent, for sure one is highly likely to receive dividends. If committed to a business, venture, or product - of course there will be profits. One may commit money to anything to yield profits just because it is available, but is that money alone what will produce the yields? Even the almighty God made available to man seeds to sow which germinates into other plants and fruits but does it not require other factors to effectively prosper? Factors like nurturing it; clearing weeds, watering, protecting it from herbivores and so on?
