The word ‘fool’ does not imply that atheists have a low intelligence, that they are barely literate when they claim that there is no God. When you glance at the books of that famous quartet of anti-Christian writers today, then you know that you are confronted by a group of highly intelligent and academically qualified men. The word ‘fool’ is not referring to intellectual inadequacies, and as i understand them they’re not saying bluntly, “There is no God,” but that they don’t believe that there is a God.

The word ‘fool’ initially refers to those who lived as though God did not exist. Their problem was moral obstinacy and perversion, it was not that they were mentally deficient. The Hebrew word for fool is nabal and such a person is epitomized in a man actually called by that word, Nabal, in I Samual 25. He was the man who was married to Abigail, who had the opportunity to put David the future king in his debt by helping him and his men with food and provisions when they were outlaws hunted by Saul. Nabal, however, was an aggressive fool; he rudely refused to help David, answering the future king’s servants, “Who is this David?” disdaining him. David was known and loved by the nation! David would have had him killed then and there if it had not been
for the intercession and the gifts that Abigail brought him. The proverb says, “A fool’s tongue cuts his own throat.” Soon Nabal had died, and then David married Abigail. What a foolish man was Nabal, practically a fool, not intellectually foolish.

The word ‘fool’ means a fading, a withering, a dying, like a fallen leaf or a plucked flower. The vigour and health of heart that Jesus Christ gives to a believer is not in the atheist. “I have come,” said our Lord, “. . . that they might have life and have it more abundantly,” but when Christ is ignored and locked out of our hearts then his life of joy and wisdom and godliness is not present in men’s lives. They are walking sepulchres, dried up and decayed.

The writer of that verse of the bible said so because of his lack of tolerance. Even though Christians have a higher tendency of being termed as 'foolish' going by what we see everyday about the pastor and their sheeple, about their nickname 'sheep'! etc. yet we who are wise restrain from calling them 'fools' because we know how provocative that word could mean.
I personally wish in my meditation that the light of God Almighty will visit all Christians(sheeple) and reveal, their foolishness to them to make them wise. Peace.

I have noticed one thing about Christians on Nairaland. If they are craving attention, they just create a thread with "atheist" in the title and get attention.
Most of the Christian threads without that go unnoticed.

So if I may go by these posts, the first says 'a wise man may look ridiculous in the company of fools'. Christians see atheists as ridiculous, because he actually is wiser than them all. So substituting 'fools' for Christian sheeple' and a 'wise man' for 'an atheist' we can now have

Note, I am not an atheist but I salute the courage of the atheists and their wisdom. They know that none of these noisemaker gods in the holybooks is the FIRST CAUSE and they are right.

Atheism is indeed foolishness. I dont know how anyone can believe world came from nothing.

Why are these fools?
1. God has revealed Himself (Romans 1:20 ). Paul, in the first chapter of Romans, gives many good arguments as to why people are fools for not accepting that there is a God and not making room in their lives for God. Paul said,

“For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20 ).

We are fools if we cannot look at the things of the world and realize that there is someone greater than ourselves. We are fools if we cannot see the power of this universe and that something divine created us. These attributes of God can be seen by anyone, not just the really smart, scholarly people. Because of these things, God says we are without excuse for not knowing there is a God.

2. People suppress the truth (Romans 1:18-19). If God’s invisible attributes can be clearly seen through the creation, why do people still claim there is no God and make no room for God in their lives? Paul addresses this question two verses earlier. “ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them” (Romans 1:18-19). Paul tells us that people are suppressing the truth that has been shown to them by God because of their ungodliness and unrighteousness. People do not believe in God because they do not want to believe in God, and it is as simple as that. God has revealed Himself to all people. To then say that there is no God, or that there is no room for God, they simply suppress the truth which they know. This is why
they are fools: they are ignoring the clearly revealed truths of God’s existence.
