Early this month, October 5th, teachers all over the world were celebrated. This day is set aside every year to celebrate this set of people that produce doctors, lawyers, presidents, diplomats, engineers and the likes every time.

Teachers before now were well respected in the society because everyone believes they are the ones moulding the society by producing different categories of people for different endeavours, but now, tables are turning teachers are no longer regarded as someone that should be respected.

For instance, a parent recently shared a story of a teacher that was beaten up by another parent and was asked by the school board to apologize to the parent and yet was still sacked.

Please, permit me to mention names (so that anyone who wishes to verify can do that). This is to show the level of disrepute which the teaching profession has been put.
Last term (Third term, 16/17 academic session), a school (Divine Scholars Schools) in Bogije (Ibeju-Lekki local government area of Lagos state) had a mini football tournament for primary children. During one of the games, a boy was substituted with another boy. Because of the limited number of jerseys available, the boy going out of the pitch had to give his jersey to the substitute. While this change was going on, the boy's mother came to the school, and she saw her son with just singlet and shorts (as he had just given the shirt to the substitute who had gone to the pitch). Without asking any question, she called her husband who also came to the school. No one knew anything was amiss until the man asked for the games master and as soon as the man was pointed out, the parent pulled out his belt and lashed out at the teacher. Before he could be stopped, he had whipped the teacher severally. After all the oohs and ahs, the school owners came and
- Apologised to the parents
- Asked the teacher to go to the parents’ house to apologize
- And when the teacher resumed the following day, after confirming that he had apologized, was given a sack letter.
This is the treatment meted out to a TEACHER by parents and a school, all the school was after was retaining the child at all cost, even if it means appeasing the parents by further humiliating the teacher”

Another parents have another dimension to the issue, she said

“Because parents harass teachers; hence teachers turn the other way even when they see children misbehaving. Unfortunately, these parents were once under the tutelage of strict and firm teachers. On the other hand, we find teachers who themselves are lawless and undisciplined, how in Heaven's name will such a teacher correct aright?” I implore teachers and beg them in the name of the Lord, if you found yourself in that profession simply because you didn't get any other job, and you know within you that you sincerely do not have a passion to nurture children, please go learn a trade and leave the teaching profession, cause you are only causing harm to the future society”.

Like a true mother, a teacher can only nurture a child with love and not with aggression/tweetable]. It is not surprising that some of the curse words that these children learn even are learned from the teachers.

She urged school owners to invest more in their teachers and organize trainings for healthier and better outputs . By so doing, we are assured of a better tomorrow and a promising future. Another parent also on her part disclosed teachers no longer correct the students; parents are sometimes too busy to observe things that are going wrong.

"In the interest of the child both the school and parents must work together. You need not threaten your child's teacher or the school authorities”. She added that schools must also ensure that teachers are well trained to support the growth of the children. This is challenging time, all stakeholders must work together”.

Is it still possible to go back to the time where teachers are celebrated and treated right?

If the answer is yes, Then stop maltreating teachers! They should be treated well and nice.
