ECOWAS orders N88billion Biafra compensation

The Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS) court today ordered that a total of N88billion be paid as compensation from damages to some Igbo communities for the trauma they suffered during the civil war and continued to suffer even after the war had ended in 1970.
Irohinoodua was informed today that the cost was awarded against the Federal Government for its failure to clear landmines and remains of explosives in the aftermath of the civil war in the South Eastern part of the country.

At the ECOWAS court today, the consent judgement delivered by Justice Chijioke Nwoke ordered the Federal Government to commence clearing and evacuation of the aftermath of the civil was within 45 days.
The government is also expected to pay 88billion naira in compensation to all the Igbo communities affected by the bombs said to have causes severe radio active damage to the livelihood of many Igbo communities.Many of the bombs were left in the Igbo communities and in some instances have exploded harming the communities. Mr Femi Falana who stood in for the communities describe the judgement as a landmark.
