Big thanks to the Nigerian Auto-Industry, the National Automotive plan, and the Nigerian industrial revolution plan.

We currently have over 23 different car assemblers and car component manufactures.

Innoson
PAN
Steyr group
Leyland
NAT,

All have absolutely nothing to do with South-Africa.

Innoson Hatch back, incorporates 70% local car components, same as Innoson taxi.

president Jonathan thanked SA for helping Nigeria set her automotive industry....he also thanked south African financial institutions ,Nigerians will be purchasing vehicles in Nigeria using south African banks....how do you like that?

Poorly armed.

Ever heard about 4 reccon regiment?

Regarding submarines:

2. One undergoing maintains or refit.
3. One used for training new crews, like qualifying new guys.

You should actually be telling this to yourself. Nissan SA only supports Nissan Nigeria, Nissan Nigeria is part of the Stallion group which has at-least 8 different vehicle manufactures under it.

PAN, volkswagen, steyr, leyland, Ammanco et al have always operated since the 80's and 70's in Nigeria.

Nigeria is currently rebuilding her army, navy and air force same way South Africa rebuilt hers in 1994-1999.

Wait for Nigeria to finish rebuilding 2013-2018, submarines are on Nigeria's shopping list, it's our time to spend billions while you watch us and cry out in envy tongue tongue
.
Yes, you too wait for SAN to introduce three new frigates and amphibious assault ships.

South Africa before 1994-1999 was way stronger, able to reach hit Lagos with moments notice.

Do you realise by that time NAF JF-17 and Su-30 Flanker will be armed with BVR missiles and PGMs air to sea by that time?

For today, South African navy will perish from Nigerian army's 660 artillery guns if you sail withing Nigeria's 22km maritime law territorial oceans. We have our water front heavily guarded with 50 km range radars and Tv cameras covering the entire Nigerian coastline from Lagos to Calabar.

Ya wanna die young South Africans?
.
Ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

But it again proves that the Nigerian navy can't challenge SAN at sea.

Nigeria has ZERO enemies at sea, the only threat is piracy and we wisely purchased over 300 mixed types of IPV, MPV, and OPV including over 60 Stealth combat Catamarans that no country has in Africa.

Nigerian navy has one of the most modern and largest sized patrol force in the whole world, equal to any NATO country including America, Britain and Russia.

We invested over $2 Billion on those patrol vessels instead of buying 3 submarines and 3 missile frigates with the same amount of money. Wisdom of the giant !

By 2015-2018 Nigerian navy master plan shows purchase of 4 missile warships and submarines. Foresight of the giant !

After realizing that submarines and frigates cannot do OPV workloads, South African navy is dreaming of buying OPVs in 2018. Foolishness of the dwarf !
.
The Nigerian navy is weak.

It can't challenge anyone.

Aradu is a modern 1983 vessel. With NNS thunder the Nigerian Navy can circumnavigate the Continent of Africa. Plus, the ship is designed to carry out specific roles, roles she's damn good at.
Older than SAS Drankenberg.

What's modern about a 20th century vessel? That's keeps breaking down during operations.

2 subs are fully operational, 3rd is undergoing (or completing) sea trials

And many more missile armed boats.

These vessels saw action, as recently as Nigeria's second intervention in liberia's civil war, the battle for free-town, and Nigeria's Gun-boat wars.

1 useless frigate older than myself
5 obsolete corvettes which wouldn't even fire at an Oryx flying above its head
many armed boats that cannot even get rid of piracy operating in your waters looting oil and kidnapping oil contractors.

South African company Rippel Effect Systems has landed another contract for IGS-4S day/night sights for the Colombian Army which has now standardised on this item of equipment from Rippel for all its cavalry requirements.

The company expects to complete installation on the whole Colombian Cascavel armoured combat vehicle fleet during next year.

The IGS-4S was launched as a Rippel product two years ago and the technology is licensed from South African firm Vision 24 Observation Systems. The model selected by Colombia is the IGS-4S compact video sighting system, which can be utilised in conjunction with various vehicle-mounted weapons in calibres ranging from 7.62 mm to 125 mm. The system provides the operator with a 24/7 below-armour observation and ranging capability to fire the weapon in all weather conditions, low visibility and darkness.

Rippel Effect said the IGS-4S accommodates multiple sensors tailored to suit user requirements and weapon choice. As a single system it can be pre-programmed with ballistic aiming marks for any weapon and the various types of ammunition for the selected weapon. IGS-4S has the additional ability to range distance to target. It has a laser rangefinder, day camera, uncooled thermal imaging and multi-function screen, which displays aim points and system parameters, as well as controls for the thermal camera. The system is optimised for installation in small vehicles where space is of prime consideration.

Rippel Effect Systems

The company has developed a video bore sighting device as well as a day/night sight, the VK-RSS-02, that can be used with the secondary weapon on armoured vehicles (such as the 7.62 machine gun on the Cascavel). Both the bore-sight and the VK-RSS-02 integrate seamlessly with the IGS-4S System. The video bore sight makes bore sighting possible by one person from inside the vehicle. The VK-RSS-02 makes it possible to use the secondary weapon from below-armour. The VK-RSS-02 can also be used as hand-held thermal imaging device.

Rippel Effect is known for its series of 40 mm grenade launchers and is focusing on three main products: its new less lethal six-shot multiple grenade launcher RLL37/38 which will be marketed in association with two of the world’s foremost less lethal ammunition manufacturers - Condor of Brazil and ALS of the US; the XRGL40 extended range 40 mm MGL and IGS-4S targeting and sighting system. The XRGL40 can fire low velocity, medium velocity and less lethal ammunition with very low port pressures, including rubber, ball, soft-nose, illuminating and smoke grenades. The 5 kg XRGL40 fires a 220 gram medium velocity projectile to a range of 800 metres, versus 375 metres for low velocity ammunition.

Designed as a true multi-role weapon system, it comes with the GR40 smart multi-velocity sight, which allows the soldier to fire 40 mm ammunition with different ballistic profiles from the same weapon - both 40x46 mm low-velocity and 40x51 mm medium-velocity grenades and also the latest less-lethal rounds.

Rippel Effect started marketing the six shot XRGL40 in 2011/12 and in the last two years has managed to sell the XRGL40 extended range 40mm MGL to eight different countries, the extended range 40mm MGL System is now operational in the Middle East, Latin America and Far East. The XRGL40 is also used in 40 x 51mm extended range ammunition development programs by RDM (South Africa), Diehl BGT Defence (Germany), Energetics Technologies Ltd (UK) and Indumil (Colombia).

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa and the University of Blida in Algeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint Centre of Excellence (JCoE) in aeronautics research.

The signing took place at the recent International Exhibition of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) in Algeria.

The JCoE is facilitated by the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the South Africa’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) to establish a working relationship where Algeria would be strengthened in the field of aeronautics and the DST supported in expanding the South Africa/Algeria science and technology bilateral.

Potential fields of co-operation include technologies for UAVs; avionics and ground systems; aircraft structures; gas turbines; wind tunnels; store integration; hypersonic flow; flow control; space technologies; computational methods; aero-elasticity; optronics; radar and aero acoustics.

“Outside of South Africa, there are really no other significant aeronautics research capabilities and facilities in Africa. Algeria’s equivalent Science and Technology Department understands the requirement for Africa to take ownership of its aeronautics research requirements and is delighted to close the African aeronautics research chasm through collaboration with South Africa,” Acting Executive Director at CSIR DPSS retired air force major general Des Barker said.

CSIR Aeronautics experts attended the International Exhibition of UAVs and model aircraft held under the patronage of the President of Algeria and facilitated by the Director General of Scientific Research and Technological development in Algeria. The CSIR presented on various topics and performed a flight demonstration of the CSIR’s Indiza Mini UAV.

The exhibition ran over three days with the keynote address given by Barker and concluding with the signing of an MoU between the CSIR, represented by Barker, and the University of Blida, represented by Dr Mohamed Mebarki, Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The exhibition was part of the 60th anniversary of the start of the Revolution of November 1, 1954, with the participation of universities, research centres including the CSIR, and Algerian national institutions, such as the Ministry of National Defence. Also participating were foreign universities and scientific institutions specialised in the field of aeronautics from several countries, including Tunisia, Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Russia and Brazil.

Germany company Diehl Defence has signed an agreement with Rippel Effect to jointly market the South African company’s 40 mm grenade launchers.

Diehl and Rippel Effect Systems (RES) will qualify Diehl’s 40 mm medium-velocity ammunition for Rippel Effect’s XRGL40 and UBL40 grenade launchers, according to Diehl Defence.

“Deployment of our insensitive infantry ammunition in two further grenade launchers belonging to the best worldwide, is a big vote of confidence for us enhancing the export opportunities of our proven 40 mm ammunition family”, said Franz Kienzler, Head of the Business Unit Land Forces of Diehl BGT Defence.

“Our compact and light grenade launchers, combined with Diehl’s ammunition, achieve an additional competitive advantage benefiting infantry and special forces in their struggle against terror and violence”, added Fritz Visser, CEO of Rippel Effect Systems..

Both partners agreed to offer complete weapon systems, consisting of the grenade launcher and ammunition, in certain core markets as part of the agreement.

RES manufactures 40 mm multi-shot grenade launchers, certified to fire both low and medium velocity rounds. Its XRGL40 extended grenade launcher also fires less-than-lethal riot/crowd control ammunition, including rubber, ball, soft-nose, illuminating and smoke grenades.

The company also offers its UBL40 under-barrel grenade launcher for assault rifles and its GR40 electronically programmable sighting system, able to distinguish between the use of low- and medium velocity ammunition.

Rippel Effect says it has exported thousands of 40 mm grenade launchers to more than 30 countries around the world.

Diehl is involved in South Africa through the supply of IRIS-T air-to-air missiles for the South African Air Force’s 26 Gripen fighter jets. The first missiles were delivered in 2009. Diehl has also test-fired its missiles (including the IRIS-T Surface Launch) at Denel’s Overberg Test Range in the southern Cape.

According to Jane’s, Diehl has previously partnered with Denel over artillery ammunition.
