There is this interesting banter going on over about comparisons being made between Argentina’s Lionel Messi and England’s Wayne Rooney. The expectations for each of these young forwards seem to be increasing each day we move closer to the World Cup. It is only natural that people are comparing the two.

I personally think Messi is better than any player on the planet at this point in time, I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking it. Please whats your own view?

Messi will not have scored half of the goals he's done if he was in the premiership, defenders in england would have showed him.

Who started this topic? Comparing both players presently is not fair. Messi is like the Maradona of this era. He has everything that Rooney has PLUS superb dribbling and creativity. Rooney is good but this English press always know how to blow their trumpet.

So by what you are saying, La Liga is poorer than the Barclays Premiership? Was it La Liga that voted Messi Numero Uno in the world? Was it not Barca that beat ManU last year with the so called defenders that you are pointing out?

The thing is that most people just watch the Barclays Premiership as Nigeria is an English speaking country so it is what is most available. My guy, you really need to watch this guy play before you comment.

Another important point is that Messi takes this world easy and smiles even when you bring him down. He is smallish but Just like Shaun Wright-Phillips, he more than makes up for his size by having an immense speed and flexibility.

Rooney is brute. He always curses. Watch his mouth when a decision goes against him and see. Ask yourself, if you are a business man and you want to sign either of them to advertise your product, who will you go for?

Presently,I'd have to shade it in Messi's favour.
Roo has the edge in that he can pick out opponents with passes,long and short range.
Messi's advantage is that his close-control is superb.
However Messi cannot lead the line;he's got to play off someone to be effective.Roo does that very well.Roo's problem is his finishing.If he were more lethal he'd have scored more by now.

Dude it's a fact.La Liga is wack.Check out their team's performances this season in europe.And check the gulf in class between Real/Barca and the rest of the La Liga table.
The Barca United final was a one-off.Over two legs the previous season,Barca couldn't score.Barca also has a poor record against Chelsea.They have never beaten Chelsea with 11 men.
Check your stats and see how many times English opposition have beaten spanish sides over contests decided by two games.
As for Rooney cursing,tell me which player doesn't do it.In fact, "Angel"Messi spat at an opponent last season and was banned for three games.
To me,Messi isn't better than Rooney in that department.

This is just like saying the cat and the snail, which is faster. This is an insult to Messi. You should be comparing Rooney with Fernando Torres not Messi. Messi is far far far better. I doubt if people will even agree that Rooney is better than Torres because I personally don't agree.
