Simple Entrepreneurship Lessons From Ants by Jpaul16(m): 1:46pm On Nov 09, 2017
It is well enough to go to the best business schools, seminars, conventions and other events to learn self improvement, but have you actually given a listening ear to the lessons nature constantly try to teach us? They are so many lessons you can learn from nature, about life and even entrepreneurship. The ants, one of the most fascinating insects on the earth, they do not have any leader but they can function almost as perfectly as the biggest human organization, even better. They are so good that even scientists study them to find solutions to problems in swarm robotics.Lets take a look at what makes the ants so special.

1) Ants are driven by purpose: At any point in time an ant is always on a particular mission, either to find food or to build a colony. Because of their purposefulness, ants are one of the most industrious insects, rivalled only by the bees.
LESSON: Most times we are tempted go divert our attention to what is not important; fight the urge. Having a purpose can help you direct your productive efforts, to what is important,so as to improve productivity. Do not follow anything that catches your attention; know your purpose and stick to it.

2) Ant work as a team: Ants, like most insects are known for living in groups (colonies). This characteristic of ants enables them to collectively take on challenges that they may encounter such as intruders.
LESSON: Teamwork is an indispensable skill in entrepreneurship, it can determine how far in your career you will move. Sometimes we may be tempted to think of ourselves as the best in our team, and treat everyonelse as less knowledgable. Your ability to work with others in a team defines how far in your career you will move. Not only does teamwork improve communication among members of a team, it also ensures improved efficiency and problem solving.

3) Discipline: Ants do not have a fixed leader to lead them, but their actions show a very high level of discipline, example is in their straight line march, when scavenging for food.
LESSON: Being a successful entrepreneur involves involves, being a disciplined person. In fact entrepreneurship requires more of discipline than it does of ideas, that is why most investors take note of the traits of the founder before investing in a business. Having great ideas can bring you success in the short term, but discipline would take you through your lifetime. If you lack the discipline, its not to late to take a crash course on it.

4) Ants are big thinkers: Have you ever seen a large carcass disected by ants? They can finish the whole thing in two or three hours! Also ants can lift objects twenty times their own weight, sometimes even thirty!
LESSON: There is greatness in each one of us, we all have the resources needed to overcome challenges, in our hands and in our brains, we just have to get them out and use them. It is important to maintain a “think big mindset” as an entrepreneur, not only will this keep you calm in times of chaos, but also help you bring up solutions quickly.

5) Ants think of the future: It is well known that ants work all summer, finding and storing food for the winter.
LESSON: In entrepreneurship there are ups and downs, changes in industry trends, economic changes and others, but the smart entrepreneur is not ruffled by this because he knows what will happen has has made adequate preparations for them. It is not to early to plan the next three to five years in advance. To be fore informed is to be fore armed.

6) Ants are organized: The organization of ants, has been called mindblowing by som experts. ants have been known to transform dirt into an underground edifice as high as a skyscraper, but on an ant scale. Even when attacking other colonies, they seem to come up with strategees that rival that of man, even though they have no leader!
LESSON: Some people are energized by chaos, while others are bamboozled by it. Unless you belong to the former, it is important for you to be able to keep your head in times of chaos. This means organizing the different aspects of your operations, into segments and allocating time for it according to priority. You can also delegate some of the work to others so as to help become more organized.

7) Persistence: Place your finger in the path of an advancing line of ants, and watch their reaction; the line gets temporarily broken, but they eventually find a way around the finger and continue onwards.
LESSON: Failures and setbacks are only, stepping stones to success. Persistence does not mean that you can’t fail, it means that you can get up, dust yourself and continue moving after you enconter a setback. This is also where passion comes into play; it is the fuel that burns, and fuels your desire for success making you resist the temptation to stop. Sometimes you may have to do with critisims, hate, rejections, but with persistence they can be overcome.

Success is the result of doing things a certain way. There are similar traits we see in most successeful entrepreneurs, some of which are listed above. There are so many lessons nature can teach us if we can be more open.
