In a discussion in a library, back in Nigeria , Man #1: When you are done with that "catalog-iu" (he means catalogue), please let me have it. Man #2: It is pronounced "catalog", not catalog-iu. Man #1: I know, it was just a slip of tong-iu (he means tongue). Man #2: There you go again; the word is pronounced "tong" not tong-iu. You don't pronounce the "ue" at the end of the word. Man #1: Ok, Mr. English, just give me the catalog when you are done; I don't want to "arg" with you. Man #2: , laughing. This time you should pronounce the "ue" at the end of the world. It is "argue", not arg. Man #1: STOP CONFUSSING ME, idiot. |
