Dear Hauwa,

You lie somewhere in Mushin; your grave, unmarked.
Subject no more to the small joys and many pains of living and humanity. Blissfully deceased.

You did not possess a prominent surname to arrest our attention at your death. And there exists no legacy to stimulate some extemporaneous reminiscence of your fleeting impact. Perhaps, if your long-awaited marriage came to pass before your demise, you might have had a child to call your own, to propagate your genes, and to continually honor your memory. But no, you're gone from our realm. And are remembered only by a void rather than a heritage.

Saturday 22nd July, you departed this world.
Monday 24th, it was evident that things would never be the same.

And it hasn't, indeed. Poor us.
Poor us - in the land of the living. Afraid, yet, of the inevitable, which you have faced, and with divine equanimity, accepted; nay, conquered.

I cannot undo the malady that claimed your life.
Or rue the series of unfortunate decisions that led to it.
It is not my place to mourn more than the bereaved.

But . . I can pray that the internet never dies, so that for all eternity, in a small corner of cyber space, there is always this record of a certain Hauwa; who made the best couscous in Ikoyi, Lagos. And whose meekness and dedication was unparallaled. And whose service and support we will forever appreciate.

So, thank you dear Hauwa, for you mattered, and are missed, and your memory will ever subsist.

You lived, thus you live.
