The next elected president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to emerge from next year's general election would be of northern extraction to continue with the political zoning formula, the proposed Mega Party has said.

Speaking in an interview with Sunday Trust in Abuja weekend, the National Publicity Director of the Mega Summit Movement, Malam Hamisu San Turaki, said that the decision of the proposed Mega Party to produce its presidential candidate from the north is to continue with the zoning formula which has since calmed down the political tension in the country.

The zoning of the presidency and other political offices were introduced by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the journey towards 1999 to return the country's power to a democratically elected government. But opposition parties equally accepted it as it succeeded in reducing political tension in the country.

Though it is not clear yet who the candidate would likely be, Malam Turaki disclosed that meeting between the former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice-president, Atiku Abubakar and former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, was in advanced stage in consultation with other stakeholders in the movement with view to reach consensus to come up with one northerner for the position.

Talking on the ongoing political imbroglio in the presidency, he said that the problem was as a result of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s violation of Nigeria's constitution, adding that, once Nigerians do away with the PDP in 2011, the country would move forward.

"The problem with Nigeria is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They don't follow the constitution of this country and they are the type of people who feel nobody can tell them the right thing to do. With Mega Party in place, Nigerians have an alternative to do away with the party come 2011. Once they achieve that, this country will move forward," he said.

Even though I think its is unconstitutional to zone the presidency I think we still to young to ignore the effects of not giving everyone a fair share of Governance, I could care less where he is from all I want is someone that will set up a system that works!
