A few days back I received a message from one of my contacts on WhatsApp. The message read,
“OMG!! Have you seen this? link”

As you may have seen, the message does not say much but rather has a connection bearing the name of a popular online store. I didn't tap on it because I knew it was a WhatsApp spam message. Be that as it may, I'd get a kick out of the chance to enable you to understand what might most probably happen in the event that you tap on the connection.

• First, you are taken to a site that 'looks' like a popular online store
• Then, you are provoked to play a game like 'Spin a Wheel' where you can claim a prize contingent upon where the wheel's pointer stops
• After you spin the wheel, suppose you win a smartphone. Presently, to claim the prize, you are told to share your happiness about winning the prize with at least 5 of your companions
• Once you do this, you are asked to install an app as the last advance before you can claim your prize
• You install the app yet nothing happens – you never get your blessing

All in all, what happened here?

The whole motivation behind the message was to take you to a fake site and make you install unwanted apps and thusly, the scammer was able to earn some cash. And because you shared the message with your companions, who may do exactly what you did, you have helped the scam spread to more individuals – which means more cash for the scammer. And no, nobody gets any blessing because there wasn't any regardless.

What's most noticeably bad?
Tapping on joins in such messages may take you to a traded off site page that can quietly drop an infection on your telephone. And this infection can be utilized to steal your personal and confidential information (contacts, emails, messages, bank account details, and so forth.) or hijack your telephone itself.
