A woman who was told she was cancer free the week before her dream wedding - died three months after she got married.

Leah Debono, 29, died from melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer in January this year.

Her family said she was "failed" by doctors who told her the lump on her arm was harmless.

Debono passed away just months after her dream wedding in October, as the cancer spread to her brain, liver, lungs, spleen and bones.

The newlywed had been to see two GPs about a red lump on the underside of her arm in 2012 but they told her it was nothing to be concerned about.

For cosmetic reasons, the young woman eventually decided to get the lump and surrounding lymph nodes removed.

Her father Lex Dubano told Australia’s 60 minutes: "I watched her take her last breath. We watched her go through something like that.

"You don’t want to ever have to experience that. It’s really cruel."

The 29-year-old had a number of check-ups over the years, with the last one being seven days before her wedding.

“At the time of the wedding she was riddled with cancer, she would have had a brain tumour at that stage as well,” Mr Debono said.
