The Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode as said that the state government is concluding plans with major stakeholder in the power sector which include the gencos, discos and TCN to ensure uninterrupted power supply for residents of Lagos state BY 2018

He noted that the state government had already devised strategies to short-circuit power generation, transmission and distribution to ensure there was “24/7 power supply to residents.”

Ambode spoke at a recent interactive session with members of the business community and informal sector, a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Habib Haruna, said on Sunday.

“Presently, we have less than 1,000MW in Lagos and the fundamental issues remain with generation, transmission and distribution. Transmission is still owned primarily by the Federal Government. But in Lagos State, we have become creative and we have done Independent Power Project through which we were able to generate 47.5MW which was distributed short-circuiting transmission.

“So, if it works, does it look like a template we can now use to get power freedom or what we call power security? If we say we are the fifth largest economy in Africa and we are not in control of how power is generated in an economy that wants to move from fifth to third, then something is wrong.

“So, what we are saying is, let’s find a way to short-circuit them within the ambit of the law,” the governor was quoted as saying.

Ambode noted that the state government was also talking with electricity distribution companies operating in the state to supply 24/7 power to residents at a higher tariff, subject to agreement of all stakeholders, while government would be the guarantor of the people.

Same thing with waste disposal. Waste is now piling up in Lagos, something that never occurred during Fashola.

Lastma also has sort of lost its teeth. They are not as effective as before and has grown too friendly of Danfo drivers and putting up with their irritating driving habits.

There has been tremendous progress on projects embarked upon by Fasola, and note that no major road can be completed in almost 2 years since he took over. Reduv

Federal government is the reason why some states are not developing at a fast pace. Lagos has the capacity and capital to provide 24/7 electricity to lagosian. But they can't achieve it because federal government is yet to deregulate power transmission in Nigeria.

The Power minister is more of a figure head in Nigeria since generating and distribution have been sold to private companies, you can give directives as minister but the investors are concerned about their pockets so there's really little he can do to them. At least he can't fire anyone under performing CEO....

Thats the new narrative that Fashola has been singing left right and center after saying any serious government would fix power in 6 months.

My problem with Fashola is he is all mouth. It doesnt take one year to fix 100km of road when you have the biggest works budget ever running into trillions for the last 2 years. Ambode has started and finished numerous roads, bridges and other infrastructure. I travekl the highways a lot and can tell you that the roads have deteriorated terribly versus 2015 when he came in.
