A Federal Road Safety Corps officer, Ondo Sector Command, Seinde Abolusoro, was killed by a driver in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The late FRSC officer was reportedly on duty on Saturday when the incident occurred.
Abolusoro was said to be at the FUTA North Gate area of Akure when the car driver veered off the road and hit him.
The victim died on the spot.
According to a source, the driver, Sola Olagunju, who was said to be heading towards Akure from Ilesa, had tried to avoid hitting a parked articulated truck on the road when he knocked down the FRSC officer, who was standing by the roadside.
The source said the driver was immediately arrested and handed over to men of the Ondo State Police Command.
Efforts to get the reaction of the sector command of the FRSC in the state were unsuccessful as the telephone line of the sector commander, Mr. Vincent Jack, was not reachable as of the time of filing this report.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, describing it as sad and unfortunate.
He said, “The suspect is in our custody and we have commenced investigation into the matter. He will be charged to court after investigation has been concluded.”

Road safety and Police are now close relations when it comes to bribes taking on the high ways! I believe the driver was bent on not stopping to avoid being extorted and the safety officer was also bent on stopping him to have him extorted. Action and reaction then took place which are equal and opposite . RIP to the dead .

So sad. May God console his family.
I trust his colleagues to clamp down on the drivers in that area like injured lions. If I were a driver in Akure right now I would make sure I carry around even my birth certificate.
