Green Light Initiative organized a road safety walk in commemoration of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2017.
In commemoration of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2017, GreenLight Initiative, a non-profit organization in conjunction with Lifeline care on Saturday 18th November 2017 embarked on a 5 kilometer Road safety sensitization walk tagged “Enough of The pain”.

The walk was motivated by the high rising rate of road traffic accident deaths in Nigeria with the majority of the victims consisting of young people aged 19- 26.

The event kicked off with an activation program at Silverbird Galleria, Central Business District, Abuja. The activation program ran from Tuesday 13th November to Friday 17th November 2017 where members of the public were acquainted with the importance of road safety, invited to take pledges to slow down and also join the upcoming walk slated for November 18, 2017.
The walk commenced at 6:30 am at Millennium Park, Maitama, Abuja after a short session of aerobics. The group proceeded through Ahmadu Bello way, Federal Secretariat, eagle square, and ended at Millennium Park.
The event which was colorful was graced by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), staff of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Representatives from the United States Embassy, Abuja, Nigeria Navy, Rotary Club, staff and volunteers of Greenlight initiative, lifeline care association and the general public. All actively participated in the distribution of flyers while also advising people to slow down, all through the duration of the walk.

The representative of Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi, O.G.E Shekarau gave a speech thanking Greenlight Initiative and lifeline care association for organizing the walk. He also stressed the fact that the issue of Road safety should not be left for the Federal Road Safety Corps alone but should be taken seriously by all members of the society.

The United States Embassy representative, Mr. Brooks Russell stated that we have lost too many young lives through road traffic accidents. He implored everyone to obey road safety rules and stand by their pledge to slow down.
Mr. Simon Obi, founder of Green Light Initiative in his interview, stating that over 1.25 million lives are lost in the world every year, due to road traffic fatalities, he said that, in 2016, Nigeria recorded 5035 death to road traffic fatalities. He also said that the essence of the walk was not just for exercise but also create awareness on road safety measures. He noted the relevance of following road safety rules and slowing down as a way to reduce road traffic crashes in Nigeria.

Other dignitaries present were Chief of Naval staff, represented by Captain Ture, Mr Ezra Scehrdrack representing Nigerian communication commission, and Founder Lifeline Care association Dr. Nkem Momah.
