During your child’s preschool years, they are very active and full of life. They have a very good listening skill, anytime they get back from school they mutter words that they heard during the day especially their rhymes and songs; they want to play at home.

Getting them engaged when they are back from their school is an addition to their growth. Sometimes they are given assignment by their teachers as a continuation of their daily activity. Asides from that, there are other educative activities that parents can engage their kids with.

Some of these are;

Reading to them at night:

This can be a pre-sleep ritual for 10 minutes every night. Building a bond and at the same time teaching them by looking at pictures, pointing out words, and talking about what’s happening in the book with your child, broadens their imagination and increases their knowledge. Children learn their language skill first at home, read to them and build their love for the language you speak to them.

Letter Learning:

Moments spent with your preschooler after hectic days are special and some learning can go alongside. When you're cooking together, teach your child what the letters on recipes mean. They are learning but it's also fun, because they're cooking with you. Singing songs, nursery rhymes, and tongue twisters helps the child to learn how sounds work. Sing the "ABC song" together and look at the beginning sounds of words the activities that you engage them in every day.

Numbers and Counting:

You can turn everything to play. When you walk down the stairs with them, you can count the footsteps with them, when you see numbers on food cans; the crayons in a box, the fruits that you dice, count it with them and ask them to sing with you. They learn and get familiar with it.

Socializing and Sharing:

Help your child to adapt to your culture and assist them to become an independent person by modeling appropriate social interaction and politeness into them. Ensure they take responsibilities for themselves and activities they are engaged in like cleaning up what they messed up, sweeping, opening and closing; care of self, care of the environment and exercises for the development of social skills, grace and courtesy. You can also develop your child’s social skill by going to playgrounds and play groups.
