How Words Frame Your World
Words: we speak them, read them, write them, and sing them. They are our main vessel of communication. But, my goal was to determine how words frame my world.
To some the Bible is just a book of words. To Christians the Bible is much more. It is embraced to draw inspiration for our everyday life, purpose, and pursuing a life with Jesus as our Lord. The Bible God speaking to us, drawing us into a relationship with Him and to get a deeper glimpse of His heart. God uses it to speak to us personally. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another and that through Scripture we are put together and shaped for the tasks God has for us. He uses it to teach us, guide us, and correct us. We should take full advantage of this wonderful book to pull inspiration from and use it to change our lives everyday!
In James 3:3-5 we are told of the power of the tongue, “A bit in the mouth of a horse controls the whole horse. A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything– or destroy it!” Here we are encouraged that words can accomplish nearly anything! Think about some of the things you say everyday – are they accomplishing what you hope they would? Or are they setting sail to a voyage that you don’t want?
We are also shown in Luke 6:45 that out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. There is a strong connection between our heart and what we say with our mouths. The more of God’s Word we place in our hearts, the more apt we are to speak it in all circumstances. As you speak God’s Word over your situation He is watching over it to make sure what you have spoken from Scripture doesn’t come back void (Jeremiah 1:12). Your words have power to release God’s promises over your circumstances. Even when you can not see your circumstance change right away, the words you have spoken have been sent out on mission to accomplish God’s promises. Even in the most impossible situations, God has given us the ability to use our words to put our hope and trust in Him.
We should also take note of stories God has given us in the Bible, and draw inspiration from them. To put it simply, God has every story included in the Bible for a reason – and I believe it’s to help us in every situation of life! Take Adam for example; though he was the first man ever created, his story tells us so much of who God is. God wanted Adam and let Adam name all the animals on earth – in other words, God is interested in our creativity. God tells us three times in Genesis that man was created in God’s image – we are created to reflect and mirror our creator. How amazing is that! One story, so many different attributes of God revealed.
God has intended that we use Scriptures as our guideline to life. We are able to pull inspiration from the Bible and use it to frame our world – especially through the words we speak!
