E-commerce giants Konga have laid off 300 staff in their biggest lay-off so far.

According to reports, Konga terminated the employment of 300 people, amounting to almost 60% of its workforce.

The company has struggled to turn profits since its inception, and following the mass sack, CEO Shola Adekoya announced the company's decision to remove payment on delivery.

Adekoya said: β€œIn recent years, we have explored several solutions for payment and ecommerce in Nigeria and concluded that prepay is the necessary approach for our business and the market. Given the cost of inflation and increasing challenges managing payment-on-delivery, as well as the resulting level of order cancellations on the platform, we had to take this decision.
