Monkeypox is a rare disease that is gaining popularity and now trending on search engines day-by-day. It first got this popular as it is now in the year 1970 in Zaire, republic of Congo in Africa when a 9-year old boy was diagnosed with the virus after he came in contact with an infected rodent.
It was first identified and named in the year 1958 when it was discovered as a pathogen of crab eating macaque monkeys. But you don’t need to fear only monkeys because the virus can also be transmitted to other animals and rodents. Right now rodents are known to be the major carriers of the virus.
An outbreak was first recorded in Nigeria in the year 2017.
