It is very easy to shout and preach to others. But the true test of our Christian virtues comes to light in the face of simple temptations like this anti-tithes crusade. The manners, utterances, and attitudes of the various so-called pastors (those I have read and watched their negative reactions on the issue) as they attack the young man shows how much they value the tithes over the simple Christian attitudes which they lack in their response to the issue. Their reactions ought not to be a counter attack against the young man to match him arrogance to arrogance, disrespect to disrespect, vile to vile, as if they are politicians campaigning for an election. One expects that it ought to have been an opportunity to make a deeper study of the Scriptures on the points raised by the young man, and renew the faith of their congregations on the issue biblically. After all, the young man has also been stressing his points with biblical evidence. Let us assume that he is speaking as an ‘unbeliever,’ citing the Scriptures just like during the Temptation of Christ (Matthew 4:1-11). What is the difference between his attacks and the counter attacks of those reacting as pastors, in relation to Christ’s own reactions? Virtue is a good habit cultivated through constant repetition and self-mastery. Does the inability to respond to such a dicey issue with the requisite Christian virtues which would have edified the congregations the more on the issue not indicate that such virtues are far-fetched from these respondents who are supposed to be preaching it? In his/her defense, the guilty unknowingly implicates him/herself the more. #copied from Facebook https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1479348888852457&id=100003320809573 |
