OluDare01: The tips you’ll need will depend on what type of jobs you’re looking for. Here is what worked for me: 1. As a toxicologist, I started my search from the job bank run by the American society of toxicology. This is where large companies looking to hire toxicologists would post targeted job ads. If such does not apply to you, then try the other freely available job websites. 2. Filter based on job type and types of organizations you wish to work for. Read the job ads to figure out what their requirements are. Use this to evaluate yourself and tips on how to structure your resume so those skills are front and center. 3. ALWAYS write a cover letter. I recall when I had to run recruiting for my group last year, applications without cover letters tended to be overlooked. Your cover letter should be short - maximum of 75% of an A4 paper. It should concisely tell me your educational qualifications, skills, an example of how you’ve successfully applied these skills at your previous job and how you think your skills will be of benefit to your future employer. 4. It is ok to use professional resume samples online. It is much safer! 5. If there is a contact provided in the job ad, it’s ok to call to follow-up your application. It was actually beneficial to me. 6. Apply early! Anticipate that the process can take months. 7. Be upfront about your immigration status. Better to be rejected early in the process than after you and your future employer have gone far in the process. I’ll stop here for now. If you have more specific areas you want me to touch, let me know. 33 Likes 11 Shares |

bigfamo: If you have been reading the transcripts in this room, you would have seen many approved BSc to BSc, so far they are of different fields. Just have a good presentation on why this course? And why another BSc/ or change of field? |

Klebsy: Why would they let you enter after you missed your purpose for coming to U.S? Unless you can obtain an extension letter from you IA. However, a new student would need a few days to accommodate to the changes and to prepare before class starts. 1 Like |

TWoods: Thanks Twoods! As much as you can be a little "too" blunt sometimes, I find myself screengrabbing a lot of your posts here when you give invaluable advice. If only... Just if only you could strike a balance...... (Think about it) Nevertheless, I still believe you're one of the best things(animate) that ever happened to this thread. Happy Holidays Sir!. 2 Likes |

TWoods: Really, it’s not to spite anyone. It’s just to show that we are not better in any way. But we got it by the Mercy and favour of God. That hall is really a lion’s den. I could recall I entered with boldness, but seeing how blue papers were flying all around I was almost fidgeting but I started singing and speaking in tongues in my mind. I encourage those that were delayed here to refire, and they will surely come back and share their testimonies. The race is truly not for the swift but grace and favour caps it all. That’s my own humble submission. 8 Likes |

I hope those entering the States this period are checking the weather forecast of their city and dressing accordingly. So your 'story' won't 'touch'. |

Travellers: weigh your bag before getting to the airport. Aim for a weight about 3kg/2kg shy of the max weight for one bag as stated on your ticket; unless you have enough money for pay for extra luggage or don't mind leaving some of your personal belongings at the airport. 1 Like 1 Share |

TWoods:Thanks for this. I've heard from gurus here and things like this are very helpful as no one is an island of knowledge. I am an analytical chemist and what I do is separation science and environmental fingerprinting; basically using chromatography and mass spectrometry to detect environmental pollutants. My interest is not limited to this because I can also work as a QC chemist in pharmaceutical industries but I fancy my chances as a lab analyst in a food, drug amd envirinmental analysis laboratory. On applying early, how early should one apply? I've heard different opinions about this. Also, the main challenge as we all know is visa sponsorship. How can one navigate this puting into consideration OPT work authorization? Thanks. 2 Likes |

I have paid for my visa but the earliest date am getting is 30th when my school resumes 8 (I can't request for emergency appointment date) Do I go for the interview on 30 and defer my admission after the interview. Or should I just defer without going for the interview. Thanks 1 Like |

Dear House, Please help me answer this question. Is it a red flag to apply for a us visa to pursue my masters degree without going for NYSC? I’ll be graduating next year but I don’t think I want to go for the NYSC. Will this affect or have any effect on my visa application? |
