Jose Mourinho has seen his transfer plans ruined as Lionel Messi’s friendship with Jordi Alba has convinced the full back to stay at Barcelona and not join Mourinho at Old Trafford.


Don Balon claim Mourinho is keen on the player – but that he won’t be able to land his first choice because Alba wants to stay with friend and teammate Lionel Messi and help Barcelona win more trophies – and allow them to once again be seen as the best club side in world football – something that Real Madrid seem to have done in the last couple of years.

From Messi’s point of view, keeping the best players at the Camp Nou is of course of the utmost importance, and he was openly unhappy with the summer transfer window and the departure of Neymar.

Mourinho may be happy with his side sitting joint top of the table with Manchester City, but he’s still conscious of the fact his side could and should be better in certain areas – and that’s where the move for Alba comes in.

Full backs have been an issue for Mourinho at times during his United career, and it seems that he isn’t confident Luke Shaw will manage to come back and work his way into his side in the long run after yet another injury rehab.
