Considering some people are being paid N10,000 a month in Nigeria, I think that price is a bit high some people are getting paid millions/month of course but on the whole Nigerians are paying through their noses on most things @watchung I don't think anyone is against privatisation but the infrastructures to be privatised should at least be there first. British Rail was the sole failure out of hundreds of privatised British enterprises;British Steel,British Telecom,British Airways,British Gas,British Aerospace.e.t.c.All these were initially owned/controlled by the govt and were in good working conditions before they were eventually privatised. |

well if you're earning 10,000 you wont be expected to own a lot of electrical appliances, so your monthly bill should be lower the latter point you made is one that is lost on a lot of people, the firms that were privatised were working, maybe not as efficient as desired, but they were in working condition all the same. we might not be able to provide electricity to all Nigerians before privatisation, but the system can be at least stabilized before we do that |

Power generation is only half of the problem. In the early 90s ,Nigeria generated power that outstripped demand. We didn't have steady electricity then. We still need to solve our transmission and distrubution problems |

Power transmission and distribution are being improved as well as part of the NIPP increases of 48% and 26% respectively. I personally don't think we have had power generation exceeding demand since the early 80's can you please inform me of your source. by the way, the snapshot below is from the National Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC)

but can the plant be maintained? the usual rot will take place. |
Re: Obj Comissions Power Plant: Improved Electricity Supply? by debosky(m): 5:09am On May 25, 2007 |
pessimissm should be expected, given our previous experiences, but I can say on good authority (at least for the Ibom Plant) that comprehensive service agreements between GE (the manufacturers) and Ibom Power Company have been signed for maintenance of the facilities. In addition the aim of the government is to eventually transfer the bulk of the new plants into private management after completion to prevent the mistakes of the past being repeated. There is light (no pun intended ) at the end of the tunnel |

When will Mambila be completed |
Re: Obj Comissions Power Plant: Improved Electricity Supply? by debosky(m): 11:21pm On May 25, 2007 |
Mambila is still in the design/conception stage. Hydro projects have long lead times, expect completion in the next 5-8 years. Papalanto Power Plant Ready, on completion of Transmission network will begin delivery of 335MW to the grid. ground breaking of Olorunsogo Power (750MW) close to this site has also taken place

Nigeria will be flying high by 2010. There's Olorunsogo(Massive) There's Mambila(Massive) There's Papalanto(It's small but hennnn) There's Zamfara power plant (Massive?) There's Ibom Plant(Massive) And Egbin's capacity and productivity will be doubled in the next two years. Then are the Nuclear Plants that will commence construction by 2017. And these are only the more Publicised ones. I ommited the IPPS in Cross River etc. If Nigeria doesn't have adequate Power Supply by 2020, then Nigeria should give up on Power Supply |
