Ipad Urge Igp To Call Imo Commissioner Of Police To Order by occupyimo: 9:03am On Dec 17, 2017
The Imo Peoples action for Democracy (IPAD) has called on the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to quickly call the Commissioner of Police in Imo state Mr. Chris Ezike to order over the bias manner upon which he has been carrying out his duties in the state. The group said this while issuing a press statement on the plan to scuttle their peaceful rally by the Imo State government using the police in the state. The leader of IPAD which is a coalition of many pro democracy groups, Activist Obidinma Aku insisted that they must hold their peaceful rally on Monday the 18th as scheduled because they have been guaranteed the right to free expression and peaceful assembly by the 1999 constitution as amended. He wondered why the Commissioner will ask them to abort their peaceful rally while he allowed and protected a sponsored pro state government rally of Rochas Mandate on Friday the 15th of December if he is not compromised. The fiery activist stated that their letter to the police never sought for their permission as the Supreme Court has severally ruled that police permission is not needed for people to peacefully protest. He reminded the police that democracy in Nigeria has grown to compete with western democracies where freedom of expression is the driver and therefore cannot be rewind back to the foregone sad military days when opposing views where clamped down with brute force. He cautioned Mr. Chris Ezike to thread with caution going by the widely held perception by Imo people that he is now a tool of oppression of the citizens in the hands of the governor. The group commended the state command of the SSS whom they said displayed an unusual maturity by recognizing and upholding their right to peaceful rally. He called on the residents of Owerri and Christmas returnees to come out en mass to participate in the peaceful rally to say a big No to the bad governance which governor Rochas Okorocha has bestowed on the state, saying that they will gather and take off at Emmanuel College roundabout and proceed to bank road through Douglas road and then head to Okigwe round about. He warned that the rally is a peaceful one and urged participants to adhere to that. He accused the state government of planning to hire thugs from Ohaji to attack the rally but assured that no amount of intimidation will make them abandon the peaceful rally. Mr. Chris Ezike the Imo state commissioner of police is presently facing a committal trial alongside the governor and some government officials in an Owerri high court for violating a court order restraining the government from demolishing the Eke-ukwu Owerri market that led to the killing of a teenager Somtochukwu by the police. Many wonder why he agreed to deployed his men whereas his predecessor Taiwo Lekanu a lawyer refused embarking on the demolition of the market. There are fears that the CP may once again unleash brutal force on the peaceful protesters on Monday as our source claims he has already promised the governor that he will stop the rally at all cost. Our source in government house who pleaded anonymity also said that the governor is very uncomfortable with the planned protest rally which will expose him to Christmas returnees who are always deceived by his regular December impressionist projects.
