Lecturing Positions. by onlyme07(m): 12:41pm On Dec 17, 2017 |
This thread will be dedicated for those interested in lecturing. I will scout for available positions and you can post if you have any. A young graduate aspiring to be a lecturer should endeavour to know the following: Education Background. If you have a single major (B.Sc),it will be difficult to secure a lecturing job due to Teachers Registration Council law that mandates all teachers to posses education background that is,you either have Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) or Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). Those with double major (B.Ed) are convered except those with 3rd class and Pass. With this, you can become a Graduate Assistant Lecturer in any University and Assistant Lecturer in a poly and College of Education Masters (M.Sc) This qualification is needed in the University,Polytechnic and College of Education. Pls,make sure it is Academic Masters that can proceed to Phd. Professional Masters is not allowed in lecturing job. You must meet 60% aggregate to.proceed to Phd,otherwise you can only proceed to Mphil Phd which also depends.on your aggregate. For those with Professional Masters, you can go through Mphil.Phd to.covert your Masters to Academic Masters before proceeding to Phd. Mphil is like pre-degree or diploma at Masters level. With this, you can become Lecturer 1 & 2 in any of the education sector and 15yrs experience in a College of Education, you can become a Chief Lecturer which is the bar in that setting. You will be an Assistant Lecturer in a University and Lecturer 2 in a Polytechnic. PHD This is the climax of education in any setting. With this, you can reach the top with your years of experience. It takes 3 or more years to.bag Phd depending on the institution. Conferences & Papers. This is another important thing in lecturing. Your promotion depends on conferences attended( local and international),books, and journals written. You co-author as well. It is advisable,if you have passion for lecturing, you start from the day you start your Postgraduate Course because the price is either removed or subsidized for posgraduate students. Professorship It is an award given to scholars whose work stand the test of time and soley depends on journals, books, conferences attended and experience is what makes one become a Professor. Jobs You can easily secure jobs in lecturing if you have passion and put your ears on ground because alot of available openings are rarely advertised. A good example is the just approved 6 Universities, you may not swe their advertisement but if you go there in person, your dream job can be gotten same day. All these Universities have certain days of the week they conduct interviews. Does that mean that as I have a bsc.ed double honor certificate, I won't need to do PGDE and I can get a graduate assistant work then enroll for masters and become a full lecturer? onlyme07 |
Re: Lecturing Positions. by onlyme07(m): 9:18am On Dec 20, 2017 |
Rolex67:Yes,if you're second class upper. You're a trained teacher and member of TRCN bu virtue of your education background. That is what I advice young lads to do now,it pays..! |

Re: Lecturing Positions. by Ocheinstein(m): 3:24pm On Dec 20, 2017 |
You can't get a job in physics department of any university with a Bsc Ed. You are however qualified for lecturing in education physics only. I still think it's more stress than one bargains for Rolex67: |
Re: Lecturing Positions. by Nobody: 4:54pm On Dec 20, 2017 |
Ocheinstein:You can, a lecturer that teaches physics, had to do pGDE for them to retain him. Bsc.ed is education and physics not b.ed(physics education), a lot of difference. |
Re: Lecturing Positions. by onlyme07(m): 5:48pm On Dec 20, 2017 |
Ocheinstein: I bet to disagree. Both of them can lecture, they have education background. They both did teaching practise and are members of TRCN so,no discrimination. The problem they have is this,B.ed can only do.Masters in Education field while Bsc.ed can do Masters in both the field he/she specialise and also in education. You can ask that your friend again, there is something he's not telling you. You can proof me wrong with facts and not hearsay bro.! |

Hi everyone, I'm so glad I found this link. I have a second class upper degree in English Education, a masters in counselling psychology in Education and I'm runing a PhD in counselling psychology in education. I'm seriously seeking a position as a lecturer. |
Re: Lecturing Positions. by onlyme07(m): 6:57pm On Dec 22, 2017 |
Rudian1:Awesome profile you have there, but its a pity most of the openings in our tertiary institutions are rarely advertised and if advertised, they already have slots. However, there are vacancies virtually in all the new approved Universities, you just need to take the bull by the horn.you just have start looking for the links available. Also by going undercover in any the govt owned institutions to understand how you can get a place or you check all these affliated campuses to drop your CV. All the best bro..! If I may ask, where are you doing your PhD? |
Re: Lecturing Positions. by kingchukwudi(m): 7:06pm On Dec 22, 2017 |
onlyme07:Good one, but there are still new Varsities one can apply and submit even the private universities. All the best bro but hope ure lecturing in some where presently either as part-time or contract staff. All these money for master and PhD no be here oh. |
Re: Lecturing Positions. by Ocheinstein(m): 7:43pm On Dec 22, 2017 |
