What is the effectiveness of a ban? Becomerich have shown it is utterly useless on Nairaland. Ban will only lead to a clone account. An IP ban will see this by passed. So what is the point?

What she must know is that even if they ban me ,i can unban myself because i am friends with a notorious hacker and i can easily  instruct him to crash the nairaland website if i wanted too. @ElRazur. don't mind him, I have been on forums in the UK and USA and they are even more strict, in fact some of them if you use the f or b words they ban you and they could not care less if you jump into a lake

lol, I am a Network specialist, in this day and age, we have devised simple methods to keep hackers and idle chaps out of our networks,  

So your friend the so called Hacker has no chance.

My ISP allows me multiple/dynamic IPs, so I can switch between IPs if necessary.

Also, there is a program called "Tor". If installed, it can generate different IPS for you as there are many people will to let them use their IP as a "connecting point". So with this kind of setting it is almost difficult to police IP. Unless off course one is China.

Also Seun have to strike a balance between alienating users and generating revenue. A ban on an IP can be a blanket ban and hence lock out legitimate users.

So as it stand, I am more of the belief that removing offending post is more effective.

Imagine the sort of language you have used on someone of high standing like Aisha. You aren't the first to be banned for swearing the other day, I tried it and got 5 days; it is against the rules of descency and NL, period. If you had a genuine reason to be angry, we would support you, but you can be sure none of that is coming your way.

Personally, you do not have the resources to do it, and based on your post, you clearly do not have the know-how. Also, I think you will find that a redirected traffic can be presented a page/site hijack. Having said that I do not think Seun is dumb enough to have sh/tty servers providers or easy to muck set up.

Okay I was angry hence my choice of banning methods.

But believe me you can ban a subnet, so lets assume you are sourced from 192.168.1.0/28 which consists of 14 possible IPs, if you ban the entire subnet, thats it, but that will be an overkill.

We would normally however pass on the source information to the ISP that hosts those IPs and they will warn and can restrict that person for abuse.

Yes there are other ways to avoid this but remember the firewalls we have today are top class stateful TCP filters and so if a data flow does not match to a particlaur source it drops the traffic.

Millions of other methods, we can open a topic on this in the IT section and debate / Share technical info.
