got arrested back in the days for wandering around 11pm on old ojo road in lagos. Can u imagine i was right in front of my gate when the police downfo arrested me and my cousin. They took us to festac police police station there were about 12 of us all in our boys and girls all in our late teens and early twenties at the time. The police released those who had small doh to settle them, serviced the babes among us and let we who remained go free around 7am the next morning
true talk this is reality in lagos
police uses Danfo to kidnap young people
demand money from them(ransom) ranging from 2000 - 10000 naira
and even rapes young girls
every day!!!
how do this make you feel being a Nigerian??
Re: Have You Ever Been Arrested And Locked Up In The Cell Before by Nobody: 5:13pm On Apr 06, 2010
My experience with them was jst last week. Though it wasn't me but my cousin. E no funny at all. The police are a useless bunch of pple. Pls if u're in abj avoid airport division oh.
Last week my cousin dt jst graduated frm uniabuja left our house for d airport enroute lagos. He got arrested as they were abt to board. The police claimed he opened a fellow passenger's bag and stole d man's fone. d worst part was dt it was on a saturday. We cudn't do anytin till monday, na so d poor boy spend 2 nights for cell.
When we arrived there, they were claiming cctv camera caught it on tape. According 2 my cousin, he picked up d fone frm d floor and was trying to piece it bak 2gether when d guy behind him alerted airport security dt he stole d fone and was tryin to remove d sim card.
The useless pple collected 50k frm us after my mumc threatened them dt i was a lawyer (i jst finish, i neva go law sch). They didn't hv any case, no cctv evidence(it was jst gra gra) plus d owner of d fone boarded d same flight and left for lagos without waiting behind. There rlly was no case. The fone in question goes for like 13k. When d DPO heard i was a lawyer, he told us to follow d IPO to go and screen us i.e bribe.
When they released him eventually, d DPO called me aside n requested 4 my number. If u see d pot bellied old fool! Anyway i gave him d number and jst yesterday he called me. The mumu neva see anytin. By d time i finish wit him, i go don collect d whole 50k back. Lol.
Pls avoid police in dis our 9ja. What my cuz gisted me dt happened in cell na another tori. His 8k silver chain on his neck cud nt be found. It wasn't even logged in their useless book but a female officer took it frm him. Bunch of thieves, all of them!

I was arrested on a London bus for using a child rate bus pass when I was 17. Those days one could only use a childrate card up till 16 and it isn't really a crime that requires arrest or lock up but I stubbornly refused to give the police my real name and address so they took me to Peckham police station and locked me up in the cell for 3 hours, lol

The place was filthy and I didn't sit down the whole time I was there! There was poo and blood smeared on the walls together with grafitti. The cell had a stone slab with some of kind of rubber mattress and there was a disgusting toilet in there which flushed by itself every few minutes. After about an hour I stared crying and gave them my name. Stupidly, as I was 17, (not allowed to use a childrate card) I was still considered under a child under law and so I had to wait for a responsible adult to come and get me. I then had to bribe my sister 19 who was an 'adult' to come and get me and to keep her from telling my parents. Dem dayz! tongue cry

aha that was out of order now! How can they lock you up for that? They should have insisted on your real address then taken you to the station if you didnt cooperate not lock you up in a cell for that. I bet they wouldnt have tried it with an oyinbo

^^^^ true, but i have never seen anyone get cuffed for ticket offence. Sounds trivial to me, but maybe it cos of the fake address.

Well they did insist but I gave them several false names and addresses which they checked out on their databases with their radio phones and of course the information I gave them exist or match up. In the end they got fed up and took me in. I think it was more a case of me wasting police time than the illegal child rate photo card. People can get arrested for wasting police time regardless of race, just watch The Bill. grin

When I was let of with a just caution and a lecture from the Chief of Police about how being careful, obeying the law and not getting a criminal record as it could ruin my chances in life. Not that I needed it because three hours in that cell was more than enough to set me on the straight and narrow forever. grin

My own, I was just kept behind the counter, i hit a goat in front of a police station which was on a express road, a police man just appeared in front of me and blocked the road forcing me to a Police Station. He claimed the goat was His, I said ok let me pay for the goat, he said it was N6000, I told him my paying for the goat was a favor because the goat was on an express road. When he attempted to drag me in I resisted next thing he used his Baton on me, wrong move. I went behind the counter and sat down, with all their threats i said nothing, Thier DPO passed by , saw me and screamed, called me and the policeman to his office, I told him what happened, he scolded the police man and asked him to apologise and realise me immdiately, When they brough my bag, I claimed N10000 was missing ( Call me all you want but he brutalized me and i did not have time to go to court, I had to get my money somehow and at the same time teach him not to trump up charges on people). Amisdt swearing and pleading he was able to gather N8000 for me, see N20 naira and N50 Naira, i carry my money waka, then took panadol for my body pain

Yes it was because I was pissing around by constantly given them false information. I wasn't cuffed though. All the passengers had been asked to leave the bus before hand and then I was just read my miranda rights and then the bus was diverted to Peckham Police station.  Embarrassing. embarassed

Another time I was arrested (I was a real baadass n my teens! lol grin) My friend wanted to fight some girl at Vauxhall College so me and another girl went to back her up. Anyway things escalated to the point where the Dean of the college called the police and arrested all of us who weren't students and took us down to Vauxhall Police station. I wasn't locked in a cell this time but I was searched for any weapons and let go again with a warning. This time I was an adult (18 grin) and didn't need a responsible adult to get me. I was scared though, even though I was only guilty by association.

i spent nine days in a cell, me that i used to gym and  chop up well, by the time i came out, everybody was asking what the bleep happend to me. my neck was so bleeping long. i dont even where to start relaying the experience from but it was anything but nice. i would rather spend a week in a western jail than spend a hour in a nigerian cell. if you want to know what the word DISCOMFORT means, try Adeniji police station.
adeniji adele in lagos island? That place is . . . .infact na D . I . E

I've had friends who have been privileged to spend the nite in a police cell. One thing they all agree on is that they'll prefer to sell their blood than to pass through such an experience again.
Me,never been and never will.

YES!

I have been privileged to spend two weeks behind bars in Alapere police station/Palm grove police station respectively. Not a thing to boast off. One of those experiences that makes me more careful about the people i mix with.

End of!

I've once been arrested (back in 9ja). Asked out of my car by Police at a checkpoint. Asked about documents - all of which I provided. My crime? - Never had enough pepper 4 pocket. I was dragged to the station (the cell was full to the brim) so, I was asked to raise N10k for my "realease". I asked them for authority to use my phone and arrange for the cash. They hesitated but later agreed. That was their downfall though. A straight call to my former boss -"a (Former) well known Minister" - facilitated my release in less than 10 mins. I also claimed that N50k disappeared from my vehicle when I was arrested. Guys, una 4 see confusion 4 station. Dem drop cash in FULL. That was my way of getting back at them. grin grin

But on a serious note, person no suppose get "Godfather" to wriggle out of such scenario but as per 9ja settings, e better say ur connection reach heaven otherwise, I mercy 4 u. Its a completely lawless country.

Technically, I'd say NO! I was once picked up, making out with a babe outside a night club, I was charged alongside the babe for indecent behaviour and taken to a police station where they harrased hell outta me.

I parted with with dough and was let off the hook, it kinda shaped my perception of the naija police and as for my indecent behaviour, I've been a good boy ever since. grin grin grin

^^^^ gave it to motherless babies home.  This has nothing to do with religion but, more about morals. On a more serious note, the money was my sort-of compensation for d initial baptism of slaps n head-knocks that I got from them during the arrest.

yep,dia are two different scenerios one must encounter in d cell and dis depends on u being innocent or an offender.Anywhich way its an experience but not a gud one sha,if u've neva bn in cell u ll neva blieve d nature of oganised government among inmates in d cell,d presido is a lord,no body dare doubt his oders. If u re inocent all u can think of is to leave d cell,u ll be begging for sympathy and mercy giving d police nd inmates easy acces to extort u.On d oder hand,if one is an offender, all he thinks is how to get a lawyer to facilitate his bail nd b charged to court for prosecution.Conclusively,no one goes to d cell and remain dsame either an inoceant or an offender,he or she must be hardened. wink wink
