hammerT: A man ventured to build something in his town. It does not concern government. He had the capacity to go this far, so the major work has been done. Let him finish it. If the government is stopping him that is fine but go and count how many times you see the word 'government' in this post. we igbos are loosing our nature. We are betting the emir and the oba (government) to come and build for us constantly with this new generation. 1 Like |

Mega2biz: The problem is that maduka is said to be from an OSU lineage, ask anyone from his village. The problem is bigger than maduka, the people rejected him and also his involvement in the renaming of his village brought more problems for him.A vlogger went there and made a video about the issue and the video is on YouTube. |

hammerT: That is where you are making a mistake. We can't develop SE/Anambra by scattering development here and there. Concentrated development gets effective results to result in the most shortest time. If everyone develops their village, it will take decades for SE to develop. That is where we get it wrong. 2 Likes |

Abia is the worst and most backward state in Nigeria, this advice is good for your state but you are always camped here deceiving yourself. Umuahia is a glorified village while Aba is a shithole of dilapidated roads and filthy environment, but you are never worried. Take some time out advice abia state NwekereNdoki: |

hammerT: ok, i see what you're saying but I don't necessarily agree. You're not incorrect that the presence of other activities will give the location life, but the hospital it's self is unfinished and even if there's more life in that area, an unfinished hospital is still unfinished and cannot benefit from it. I think if he finishes it it will naturally attractive activity to the area. If he doesn't finish it, local boys will turn that thing into the worlds biggest bong lol I think Maduka has to figure out how to finish the project. Odds are like a lot of Nigerians in diaspora he tried to 'help' at home and was discouraged by something he witnessed or saw. I think Anambra made a very big mistake not nominating this man. He is far superior to Soludo in every regard, and I said from the beginning Soludo was only coming to talk and chase IPOB. Maduka really had a vision for the state, but I think he saw something that made him lose hope in the people themselves. Many people abroad want to help but once they start someone or something shows them why our homeland is in the condition it is in. Personally, I think that if you want to do something at home you cannot come in naive the way many abroad do because their naivity bubble will be burst inevitably. |

NwekereNdoki: Strongly disagree with this. If we're not being hyperbolic (which we tend to be anyways), the level of development in SE Nigeria is highest in Africa across that wide an area. There are pockets that surpass it but all of those pockets are cities. You will not find anywhere in Africa where this many people are in this condition. We are not where we want to be, but we have done things that are not done anywhere else on the continent. Developing one area doesn't work. It leads to sluming and wealth disaparity. Nigeria cannot handle wealth imbalance because the rich people will inevitably take their wealth and leave as has been the case for decades. A rich man from Osun who makes his money in Lagos will send his children to the UK. Osun will not be a part of his life plan because the development in the SW is in Lagos. Why we want that for ourselves is beyond me. Meanwhile, Igbos have loyalty to their hometown and if we lose that, we lose everything. We have developed a model that is working but the grass will perpetually be greener in many of our brains. That is why boys are dying to sneak into Congo as we speak. |

Ofodirinwa: Which model is working? No South East city matches little Blantyre in Malawi nobody hears of or Gabarone in Botswana. SE cities are either civil service towns or primitive trading hovels that don't scale beyond 10x10 shops. The oyibos we like to copy don't allow everybody to trade so that big businesses get built. For us we believe small is mighty. |

Ikengawo you are always concerned with Anambra that has kept electing good leaders but you are not worried over your useless imo state that has kept electing 419 kingpins and failures as governors. You are concerned about Anambra electing Maduka but you are not concerned over imo state having an incompetent supreme court governor. Even though he is just starting but Soludo has already performed better than all the governors in imo state since 1999 put together. Stop deceiving yourself here. Preach for imo to get it right with the next election. Ofodirinwa: 1 Like |

Ofodirinwa: No, certainly SE has better rural towns that any state in Nigeria, estpecially Anambra (I say that with every sense of responsibility). If it is that one we are doing well. But it is time we create CBDs in major towns in SE. This CBDs will create an economic ecosystem like what you have in most central cities in Europe and America and even Lagos. Companies like to do business where they can easily get access to B2B services without travelling kilometers to another city/town to access itt. We are doing well building our towns with good houses. But for companies, industries and comercial areas. We need to build CBDs in major towns in SE. So that iw will encourage investors to chose to invest there. It is the most effective way to reduce unemployment in the shortest possible time. If that Maduka building was in Awka or Onitsha, I tell u, if he was not ready to complete it, someone might be interested to lease it for something else until when he may be ready. But as it is that village now, who will want to go and lease that kind of building in a rural area? Need I mention also that will improve the aesthetics of our cities and also encourage many to want to toe the same line and even build better ones. I trust how our people like competitions. Moreover, it is easy to convince people to work in CBDs/Towns and cities than in rural areas. I know how many jobs I turned down cause of the location. Yes for a medical research institute and maybe manufacturing, it may not matter cause people usually live within a research institute and factories. But not for some other sectors, it does. WE NEED CBDs that's my point. ONITSHAA, AWKA, OWERRI, NNEWI, ABA, ABAKILIKI, ENUGU, ETC. THEY NEED CBDs. M.I Okpara knows this and Sam Mbakwe too, they planned most of this our citites to have one. But we have disregarded the plan The pics below drives my point For A better AlaIgbo! That is my point. 4 Likes

NwekereNdoki: I agree 100% but governments have to drive the process! There is something about town planning that seems to defy the typical Nigerian civil servants intellectual capacity........to them town planning does not exceed forming taskforces to demolish illegal construction and puruing street hawkers.......most west african cities are a visual disasters especially the anglophone cities 2 Likes |

abuzz33: This is what I mean, no matter what igbo do what someone else is doing = better. This is a general trait with africans. You have a good thing, rather than advance it you want to drop it and grab another based on nothing but trying to exaggerate to prove a point. So there are limits to how much I can have this discussion. For example, does the SE lack 'big business' and had big business created more wealthy and middle class ppl in Nigerian than the 10x10 shops you're insulting but don't have the discipline courage or blessing to run and maintain. In you're own life who has created more millionaires, Glo or Alaba? |
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Ofodirinwa: 9:46pm On Oct 09, 2022 |
NwekereNdoki: What are you posting in that picture that we don't already have in the SE? In case you need to know the US and Europe are realizing CBDs don't work. In a digital world nobody is talking about CBDs because they are now obsolete. But for the sake if copying we should look in that direction. Mind you, every SE city has a CBD. I think the difference is between problem solving and being aesthetic. If you don't think our cities are good looking (Owerri, Enugu and Aba look great so I soon agree) that's one discussion but to say that we are behind Malawi which has a per capita income of 625 USD is another discussion on its own. The actual people making an impact are developing their towns. They should not stop because people online think it will be more cute to build Malawi ontop of Onitsha |
