Why is that side of Awka swampy and waterlogged, is there a river around there or what, I recall Awka Millenium City located around there having the same issues
Some parts of Ifite and Agu Awka are waterlogged, and their soil is different from other parts of Awka

Spot on. I like how Obiano made sure this doesnt become another white elephant abandoned project just like what I think is about to happen with the airport Umahi is building.
Anambra Airport is still a local Airport (even though its already better than most intl airport terminals in Nigeria), a bigger terminal will be built or even this one expanded when it's granted intl licence.
The conference center is perfect, it will finally push development towards that axis of Awka. Together with Awka millenium city around that axis, Govt should quickly take over that axis and build dual carriage roads before our people start littering everywhere with unplanned houses and hotels
This makes a lot of sense

That looks like the Anambra logo on the side of the truck, but they're probably still in transit.

By the time they're done with that airport, it'll be the most modern, most functional and best equipped in the country. I doubt if even Lagos and Abuja airports have these up-to-date firetrucks.

Looking almost as brightly lit as Las vegas.

By the time the effects of the airport kick in, in about a years time (esp' if it's approved for int'l flights)....coupled with a functional river port, Awkas' economy would accelerate exponentially!

Senate approves new law school for Anambra. The site for construction of the law school is Okija. Okija is very suitable because it has ample landmass coupled with numerous universities both private and public. It also has the new Loyola Jesuit college there.

The Senate has approved the establishment of six new campuses of the Nigerian Law School across the six geopolitical zones of the country, in addition to the existing seven.

The 13 schools exclude that of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Smart Adeyemi, sponsored the bill.

Approval of the new law schools followed the consideration and adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the Legal Education Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

Accordingly, the Senate approved the Jos Law School Campus, Plateau State; and Kabba Law School Campus, Kogi State for the North-Central geopolitical zone.

The chamber also gave the nod for the Yola Law School Campus, Adamawa State; and Maiduguri Law School Campus, Borno State to serve the North-East zone.

In the North-West, the Senate approved the Kano Law School Campus, Kano State; and Argungu Law School Campus, Kebbi State.

In the South-East, the chamber gave approval for the Enugu Law School Campus, Enugu State; and Okija Law School Campus, Anambra State.

The Senate also approved the Yenagoa Law School Campus, Bayelsa State; Port Harcourt Law School Campus, Rivers State; and Orogun Law School Campus, Delta State for the South-South zone.

In the South-West, the chamber approved the Lagos Law School Campus, Lagos State; and Ilawe Law School Campus, Ekiti State.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, said creation of the six law schools was a legislative intervention to address “the exponential increase in the number of law graduates from our universities and foreign ones, coupled with the backlog that existed over the years.”

Bamidele added that the “existing campuses are overstretched and the infrastructures are not enough to accommodate thousands of law students graduating from the universities.”

The senator observed that the United States of America, with a population of over 350 million people, has about 237 law schools.

The lawmaker noted that some countries such as Canada and Australia, with far fewer population than Nigeria, have 24 and 38 law schools for a population of about 38 million and 26 million people, respectively

Bamidele explained that the provision for additional campuses in the six geopolitical zones of the federation was appropriate as it does not tamper with the seven existing campuses established by administrative responsibilities of the Council of Legal Education

The lawmaker, therefore, advised the Federal Government to, as a matter of priority, provide adequate resources for the funding of the Infrastructural needs of the law campuses across the country

Anambra International Convention Center, Awka Nears Completion

By Ejike Abana (ABS Government House Correspondent)

Finishing touches at the Anambra International Convention, Awka, one of the legacy projects of Governor Willie Obiano-led administration, is ninety percent complete.

The hint was dropped when Governor Obiano paid an inspection visit to the site, accompanied by some traditional rulers, led by the Chairman of the South East Tradional Rulers' Council, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe.

The Commissioner for Housing, Architect Michale Okonkwo and the Contractor, Mr. Mark Tu were on ground to recieve and conduct the Governor round the facility.

A renowned Awka stakeholder and former Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, Chief Ben Ndi-Obi, also joined the Governor for the inspection.

On arrival, it was observed that installation of the cooling systems, chairs, sound system, curtains, among other finishing touches were ongoing at the project.

With the notable differences observed, commissioning of the project should be anticipated sooner than expected.

His company, Cutix cables, which is one of the leading manufacturers of assorted cables for electricity, telecommunications and automobiles, was founded in 1982 with just N400,000

The idea for the Company was conceived in 1981, when Dr. (Engr.) Soon after the economy was liberalized in 1986, the Company went to the capital market, through the Second Tier Security Market, to raise funds. This singular act positioned Cutix Plc as one of the leading cable manufacturing companies in Nigeria in terms of capacity.

Additional area of 5500m of land where the Companies power cable plant is situated was also acquired in 2014.

Today, his company is the leading native enterprise in the Nigeria.

Chief Gilbert Obiajulu Uzodike hails from Nnewi, in Anambra State. A town said to have more billionaires than anywhere else in Nigeria.

Chief Ajulu with some others quest for industrialization is not unconnected to the fact
why Nnewi South and Nnewi North council area are maintaining lead as the council area with lowest unemployment rate in Anambra State.

History of Cutix cable:

Inception
1981 - 1982
The idea for the Company was conceived in 1981, when Dr. (Engr.) Ajulu Uzodike decided to leave Raychem Corporation, a major international manufacturer of aircraft & military wares and accessories, to set up an indigenous firm to manufacture electrical cables and switchgear assemblies. Adtec Ltd, a venture capital and management firm, which was incorporated in 1978, started the two projects as separate divisions in 1982. Cutix Plc was incorporated on November 4, 1982 as a Private Limited Company, manufacturing electric cables and wires.

Raising Initial Funds:
1983
By mid-1983 some friends and relations of the founder and foundation staff handling the projects were invited to invest in the projects initiated by Adtec Ltd. After the private placement, 18 founding shareholders emerged which took over the business of the cable division of Adtec Ltd, Cutix Ltd with a start-up capital of N400,000.00.

Machinery Programme:
1984 - 1986
The Company started production with one extrusion line in 1984 and have been in continuous production with the capacity to produce various cable and wire products. We added a second line in 1985 and by 1986, several wire - processing lines were added to achieve integration par with leading cable makers in Nigeria and elsewhere in the world. All the machines were specified, installed and commissioned by members of Cutix staff which is 100% Nigerian as a deliberate policy. We also incorporated as much locally fabricated parts as we could without lowering the overall quality and efficiency. Our belief in the value of integration is so strong that during the difficult days of import licensing, 1984 – 1986, the Company used the bulk of the licenses obtained to buy machinery for forward and backward integration.

Going Public:
1986 - 1987
Soon after the economy was liberalized in 1986, the Company went to the capital market, through the Second Tier Security Market, to raise funds. The public issue, which made Cutix the first private company East of the Niger to be quoted on The Nigerian Stock Exchange, was concluded on August 12, 1987. After the public issue, the Company became Cutix Plc.

Public Compounding Line:
1992
In 1992 the Company went a step further to become the first cable manufacturer to acquire a plastic compounding line.

Expanding our Product Line:
2000 - 2007
Between 2000 to 2007, with a view to expanding our product lines and capacity, Cutix installed and commissioned a number of machines, which include LBTS, F13, F-Shaw, Armouring Line, and Cabling machine among others.

New Manufacturing Premises in Nnewi:
2009
Cutix Plc started manufacturing at Nnewi in a 1,000m facility she rented from Adtec Limited. By 2009, we moved all our machinery to our own factory premises and head office at 17 Osita Onyejianya Street, Umuanuka, Otolo, Nnewi. Production now goes on at the new site, which has about 6,000m covered area while the head office complex stands adjacent to the production plant.

Become Lead Cable Manufacturing Company in Nigeria:
2014
In 2014, Cutix Plc added another feather to her well decorated cap when she built and commissioned a new state of the art factory adjacent to the first one and dedicated it to the production of all sizes of amoured/non amoured cables, XLPE cables, Poly Ethylene cables and other types of power cables. This singular act positioned Cutix Plc as one of the leading cable manufacturing companies in Nigeria in terms of capacity. Additional area of 5500m of land where the Companies power cable plant is situated was acquired in 2014.

Nice work by the contractor. The state should not rush to build a hotel in the empty space but instead landscape it for outdoor concerts and events. There are enough hotels in Awka/Nibo with capacity to support 10,000 guests coming for Conference. The state government should just ensure that the money it spent on Agulu Lake Hotel is not wasted but open up access from there by removing all the police barriers and relocate all bus parks and shift that nonsense market eke awka away from zik Avenue.
