The Number one bestselling author and former
aide to Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan,
Pastor Reno Omokri, has described as a big lie,
the statement by the Nigerian Customs which
said the service generated ₦1 trillion in 2017
as against N770 billion target earlier set.
A statement by the Service’s Public Relations
Officer, Mr Joseph Attah, on Thursday in Abuja,
announced that the service recorded the
highest revenue ever despite the ban on some
items.

According to the statement, “NCS has
recorded the highest revenue collection ever
of N1,012,259,006,779.74 with five more
working days to the end of 2017.
“This spectacular performance in revenue
collection shows N241,685,276,289.74 over the
N770,573,730,490 target for the year and well
above the N898,673,857,431.07 collected in
2016.

“(This is) Despite the economic recession
experienced earlier in the year, with low
volume of imports and restriction placed on 41
items from accessing Forex.

“The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC),
retired Col. Hameed Ali, undertook some
strategic measures in terms of restructuring
and repositioning the service for efficient
service delivery which resulted in this historic
revenue figure from the service this year,”
Attah said.

He said that for the CGC to achieve this feat,
took some measures like strategic
redeployment of officers, restraining of the
operatives of Customs Intelligence Unit were
done, among others.

However, refuting the Customs claims, Pastor
Omokri said when the naira is factored in
respect to its devaluation, then, that the
claimed generated amount as declared by
Customs is not even up to half of what was
generated in 2014 under the former President,
Jonathan.

According to Omokri, “This is a huge lie. When
you factor in the devaluation of the Naira, this
amount is not even up to half of what was
generated in 2014 under Jonathan.
@NTANewsNow , stop lying. ₦978 billion in
2014 was equivalent to $6.5 billion. ₦1 trillion
in 2017 is equivalent to $2.7 billion!”

Facts dont lie ...The govt should stop trying to decieve us with this worthless Buhari naira ... you make the naira worthless with bad policies and then increase tariffs by 75 percent on most imports then come and claim that you have raised the highest revenue ever in worthless naira while in reality pound for pound this is yhe worst performance ever by the customs

But I still agree that it is the highest ever.

Due to the fact that some time in the 20th century 1 trillion naira would have been 1 trillion dollars.

So if we keep converting and comparing based on the rate to a dollar then we could be in for a lot because there are several factors you'd need to consider.
Yyeske:
Not so fast. Do you know that even the dollar itself depreciates too ,well maybe not as fast as the naira.
This is why when you read an article quoting the price of something say in 1950, in brackets you'd see the value today. For example , values not taken to be what I said it is please, ...... a car was sold for $1000 in 1950(15,000 today dollars). Much of us don't know this because international prices are mostly in dollars.

My point exactly.

Sir, You are really wrong and blind if you think raising tariffs to discourage importation was a bad policy.

Infact, it has been the best policy so far.

How do you hope to keep importing items you can produce locally?

How do you make local producers compete favourably with their counterparts abroad with lower tariffs?

You and your likes complain about Nigeria being backward. Not producing this, not being advance.

How do you advance when you import basically everything ?

Not a bad policy when carried out by an intelligent leader but a disaster when carried out by a man with an IQ of 20...ask yourself which new anti malarials have been produced in Nigeria since the tarrif increase on anti malarial ..Zero zero zero , the only thing that has happened is the more people have died needlessly from malaria because of the hike in prices.

Malarials? ( speaking of IQs)

You can't expect to reap all the rewards at once.

how about rice for example?

It is getting cheaper; farmers are getting richer.

Someone has to take the bold step; No pain No gain.

Buhari took it, along with all the heavy criticism.

Now it has paid off but you all are still bickering.

Very valid considering some dues are either paid in foreign currency or evaluated in dollars and its current Naira equivalent paid.
On this Reno is on point and these are the kinds of facts that should be thrown at this government to show them that we are not all products of Almajiri schools.

The one on antimalarials, particularly the WHO mandated ACTs is one of the most devilish policies ever embarked upon by Buhari and people are not alarmed at the number of deaths that it has caused because Nigeria is not a data collecting country.
Just about 4yrs ago, unbranded ACTs(coartem, lonart, waipa, combisunate family) could be got at a mere 50naira wholesale price! Then just before Buhari came to power I think it was about 70-100naira.
Retail price was then about 100-200 at most, which was quite affordable and many private hospitals with HMO patients on capitation of a ridiculous 350-500naira/month could afford to regularly prescribe these Acts, saving several thousands if not millions of lives.
Now cheapest unbranded ACT family is 400naira wholesale price!!Maybe 500-600 retail price and many hospitals have thus reverted to prescribing frowned upon, and non WHO or even Health ministry recommended Chloroquine for some of their HMO patients, while increasing the bill of their private patients placed on ACTs to cover the more than 300% increase in the cost of the drug, that happened just a few months into this government and has remained same. Those who resist the increased bill are reverted to same Chloroquine or Laridox, fuelling likelihood of preventable deaths and recurrence of highly drug resistant strains of the malaria causing Plasmodium parasite!!
Yet people are not seeing the health danger this Buhari ill-adviced,poorly thought out, foolish and highly dangerous policy is causing to the health of Nigerians living in a malaria endemic nation!!!

Even if the figures they bandied about was not faulted and assuming no one came up to question them, would it prevent the dullard and his gang from borrowing outrageously to fund their boju boju budgets?

We have recovered this, we have recovered that, only for it to be re-looted by the custodians.

Reno sometimes has a tendency of being petty with some of his comments, that said this are hard facts no one can deny...

The APC led government keep throwing junks at Nigerians and they tag is achievement, their lies and deceit won't work this time around....
Re: Customs N1trn Revenue Generation Claim A Big Lie – Reno by ThatCEO: 1:49am On Dec 22, 2017
First thing, Reno is NOT a number one best-selling author. He just had a brief market spike and fed it as the real thing to gullible Nigerians in the hope that the book will keep selling.

With the amount of high profile seizures, those guys were bound to set a record. The controversial Saraki Jeep, Bentleys, high-end toyotas is an indication that those boys will set a record.

It's just like saying just because all the big teams were knocked out early in the competition, Mourinho's Champions league with Porto is less important as compared to Bayern or Madrid who won by knocking off d top guys.

Someone who generated 1Trn Naira in a recession is commendable no matter d level of bitterness in u.

Reno Omokri's iQ is no better than yours and mine, let's stop following people on our same level of intelligence .

Fools can keep seeing everything from dollars perspective, we are fast moving away from being slaves to the west, baba is determined to develop local content and create jobs for our youths. Because Mr Jonathan did not have the balls to ban importation of things that can be produced locally does not mean every president will be so stupid.
Believe it or not, Buhari is 100 times more the man Jonathan was as a president.
