No fewer than 4,700 less-privileged residents of Abeokuta in Ogun State, including widows, have received gifts of rice and meat for this year’s Christmas celebration.

As early as 7am on Monday, the beneficiaries arrived at the Treasure House of God Church, located on Quarry Road, Abeokuta, where the gifts were given to them by the church’s associate pastor, Linus Taylor.

The distribution of the food items was preceded by a short service.

Taylor told journalists that the gifts were given in the spirit of love.

He said, “The programme is necessitated by the love of God and the love for humanity that the founder of this ministry, Pastor Adeseye Senfuye, has for the people.

“It is scriptural that we should extend a hand of fellowship to the less-privileged. We have 4,700 gifts for people and the content of a package is meat and rice. We don’t discriminate whether you are a Christian or Muslim.

“No political undertone. This is why we are distributing it in the church.  We have been doing it for some time now and it increases yearly. Last year, 1, 000 people benefited. This year, it is about 5,000. By the grace of God next year, it will get to 50, 000.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Olutoyin Adeyemi, thanked the donor and urged the government, other churches and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture.

Great work done by the church
When I passed through a major Junction occupied by many beggars. I was glad to see all of them packing enough. food. The whole area was filled with food. I felt that if 20 Christians can make up their mind to take the responsibility of one of the destitute kids each for one year, then after that 20 others continue where they stopped every kid on the street will end up having a good life.
We get it wrong wen we only go out to do these things on Christmas. Those less privileged persons need help every single day of their lives. Christ should be born in our hearts everyday and the love of Christ should be shown by all Christians everyday. Christmas should not be the only day to show love, love should be shown everyday. That is why we are called "Christ-like
