I bet the marketers are finally satisfied making the abominable profits the set out to during the yuletide and are not ready to work with the government to stabilise the situation.

They understand the yuletide is the biggest holiday period in the country and would do whatever it takes to make a killing during such time. They understand even if the price at the pump is jacked up by a thousand percent, Nigerians would still patronise them!

The options being explored to resolve the lingering crisis today have always been on the table- tax holiday and special benchmark for fx. Why they make it sound as though they are novel intervention mechanisms is intended only to deflect blame from themselves.

It is a shame that a particular tribe and CAN tried to put an ethnic and religious colouration to the unfortunate situation which, ironically, didn't spare even the government itself (recall a governor purchasing at black market)!

It is well with Nigeria.

1.Tax holiday won't work....not when we aren't making enough from oil. We need all the tax revenue we can get,,....that's why Mr Fowler was appointed head of FIRS....

2.Deregulation is the answer.....yes prices shoot up, but at the end of the day, competition brings it down. And investment is going to flow in too.

An avenue for some to get rich. Why import fuel when you can engage in illegal forex deal? Some of them will ask. Good luck to Nigeria. APC is caught in their web of lies, they can't escape. They must always look for ways to sidetrack subsidy they once said doesn't exist.

What happened during the yuletide was bound to happen as long as NNPC was the only entity importing PMS into the country. People travel more these periods and our daily consumption which we are not even so sure if it is 40 million litres will most likely double that period hence demand will most definitely exceed supply and scarcity will set in. This solution has always being proposed but the government said no as they are already granting special rates to marketers at #305/$ despite the marketers telling the govt that at that rate no one can sell at the regulated price of #145. Now lets wait and see the special rate that they will grant to marketers for PMS imports.

Round tripping you mean to say? Many of these marketers will sell the dollars in open market, make their spread and forget about importing fuel.

1.Dangote's refinery is under construction, and at 50% capacity it should be able to refine 350000 bpd of crude.

2.At least ten modular refineries should be ready in two years time.

3.Whether this means reduced PMS prices is another matter

You make a very valid point.

I hope a system is put in place to ensure for every fx given for this purpose, the exact quantity of product is brought into the Nigerian market.

Against the backdrop of this hope lies the gnawing monster called CORRUPTION, which brings us right back to the number one problem of this country! embarassed

The Government Is Playing You… And You Don’t Even Realize It!

The truth is, it’s NOT your fault… but it IS your responsibility!

It’s time to face the TRUTH.

The whole "Be a good little boy/girl. Get good grades. Got to college. Find a good job. Put away money into your retirement account and you’ll be just fine." charade is COLLAPSING right under our noses.

You’ve been lead to believe that happiness and security were waiting for you...if only you did as you were told.

You’ve been told that as long you followed the path society laid out for you, you’d be ok.

You were told that the government would protect you…

That the school system would educate you…

And that your corporate job would take care of you, like you took care of them.

But chances are that’s NOT working out as planned for you...

Surveys show 1 in 3 Americans have NO retirement savings.

Surveys show most Americans don't have even $1,000 in their bank account.

And this may sound crazy...but surveys show that only 20% of Americans are free of debt.

Horrifying stats yes...but honestly, not surprising.

Not when millions of students nationwide borrow as much as $40K A YEAR with the dream of getting a degree that’s supposed to open doors for them…

Only to face being forced back to their parents’ place, because there just aren’t any jobs for their line of work.

As if that wasn’t enough, it seems like every decent paying job is either being replaced by automation through software or robots…

Or it’s being shipped overseas so companies can save a few dollars on payrolls.

It’s no wonder that a new report from the McKinsey Global Institute titled "Poorer than their Parents: Flat or Falling Incomes in Advanced Economies," shows a drastic trend in declining incomes for middle class workers.

The report found that as much as 70% of households saw their earnings drop in the past decade.

To put it bluntly: Those who had been taught to expect their wealth to grow as long as they obediently followed society’s path of choice, have learned that this promise is a LIE.

Look the reality is that the ruling minority is interested in having an obedient, loyal workforce practically enslaved by debt.

So if you chose to believe the lie and headed down this dead-end path... it’s NOT your fault. We’ve ALL been played.

But it IS your RESPONSIBILITY to do something about it - and guarantee that you and your family will NOT be played anymore.

The first step is to embrace this truth…and the next step is to get educated on what’s REALLY going on right now.

And today you’re in luck…

Because my friend and mentor David Sharpe just released his newest training video, and it is an ABSOLUTE MUST WATCH if you’re ready to WAKE UP, face the truth and DO something about it:

FREE Training: http://endfinancialstressnow.com/secret/index.php?aid=9219

The best part is that I have the right to give you access to this training for FREE.

Yes, FREE.

All you have to do is tell Dave where to send it to you and you’ll be able to watch it IMMEDIATELY:

How long with the "special forex" last? Looking for quick fix doesn't provide lasting solution to petroleum product shortage. Govt should get investors to buy our old refinery or build new ones.

I'm with any policy that will put an end to this scarcity.

Fuel is scarce because NNPC were the sole importer of the product. They are all frauds.

Giving marketers the power to import is good. But it means deregulation. They have to determine the market price. We can only get it cheaper if competition becomes very intense among marketers.

But look again, Government were still trying to control price by subsidising dollar to avert paying direct subsidy. Those are errors. Too many flaws in an attempt to romantically lift burden off the shoulders of Government. It can't continue.

. What! I thought they were asking for tax holiday

Tax holidays or subsidised dollar is the same thing. This one is even better for them. Remove their beholding to the government so they can easily approach banks and be sure of recouping all their money from sales of the product rather than finish selling and then join the government queue for the balance of your fund called subsidy.
Re: FG Grants Fuel Marketers Special FX To Resume Fuel Importation by banio: 7:01pm On Jan 04, 2018
So the subsidy is finally shifted to dollars. Billions of naira will be lost , that wont be accounted for, in this new fuel / dollar subsidy regime. Criminals
