Round FC are 2016-17 Nigeria National League champions

A brace from Solomon Nwachukwu handed the Omoku outfit the trophy as the overall winner of the country’s second division

Go Round FC were crowned champions of the 2016-17 Nigeria National League season after pipping Heartland 2-1 in the Super Four play-off final.

The Omoku side took an exception to their display in Sunday's fixture against Kwara United - whom they eventually defeated via penalties - as they stunned the Naze Millionaires barely after the kickoff.

Ngozi Elechi’s men went ahead after three minutes through Solomon Nwachukwu who benefitted from Japhet Opubo’s scandalous goalkeeping.


Lucky Emariojake equalised for Heartland with a nicely taken free-kick just at the edge of Go Round's area. But the Omoku side responded swiftly through Nwachukwu who got his brace to ensure his side retook the lead.

The second half saw Elechi's side dominate the encounter but possession and dominance could not translate into goals for them as they ended the tie 2-1.

Go Round FC had finished the normal season just behind Heartland in the NNL Southern conference which saw both sides promoted to the Nigeria Professional Football League, but the victory have seen the former crowned overall champion of the second tier league.
