RSA: No doubt RSA, i will be at Bafana game on Monday in Pretoria when the will be beating Bulgaria. Then Thursday we are at Soccer city in Soweto to witness the thumping of Colomdia, then we are at Soccer city once again on the 5th June whe we will be teaching Denmark one or two things. There after, Mexico will pray for the final whistle because they wont stand the 94 000 Vuvuzelas. I was impressed by the boys yesterday when the beat Thailand 4-0. I think the boys are really hungry now. They want to fight. Did you see the beautiful Mbombela stadium yesterday. Who ever prepared the grass must be given a hand. Well done guys. |

Bafana Bafana 4 – Thailand 0Posted by KAY-EL On May - 17 - 2010 Bafana Right Back Gaxa gets the ball. Bafana Bafana 4- Thailand 0. Katlego Mphela, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker wet the roof of the new Mbombela Stadium in memorable fashion in front of 30,000 yellow-and-green clad fans. Mphela score twice. It was Bafana Bafana all the way in Nelspruit on Sunday at the Bafana Bafana vs Thailand game. OK, we know that Thailand didn’t field the strongest team, but every devoted Bafana fan could see that the boys are getting it right.; they are putting good moves together; they are moving forward and they are taking strong, targeted shots at goal. Final Build Up to the World Cup The main thing is that Bafana Bafana are building confidence. They are scoring; they can feel that the country is behind them – this is a great start to the final build-up to the World Cup. Carlos Alberto Parreira named a solid XI for the Bafana Bafana vs Thailand game with Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Thanduyise Khuboni in midfield. Mphela started up front with Surprise Moriri just behind while Teko Modise and Tshabalala took up positions on the respective flanks. The first goal came when Siphiwe Tshabalala curled a free-kick through the wall and into the bottom corner to give Bafana Bafana the lead. Read about the game on football 365. Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira - Big Improvement “There were a lot of positives to be drawn from the match. I don’t care about the quality of the opponent,” he said at the post-match press conference after the first of five tune-up games on home soil before the World Cup opener against Mexico on June 11. “It’s a big improvement. We are now in our final stage of preparations and we are looking for performance and results. “Results build confidence and as for the performance, the players look more comfortable on the ball. We still need more penetration but I feel it is coming,” the Brazilian said. “We now have stronger opponents coming and they will give us a more physical challenge. We are in the final build-up phase but this is a good start.” Parreira said the game against Bulgaria, Colombia and Denmark would all be progressively tougher. Bulgarian coach Stanimir Stoilov has announced his squad that will play Bafana at Soccer City on May 24. |

Soccer: Australia first team to arrive for World Cup By Gerald Imray 4:00 AM Thursday May 27, 2010 Facebook Australia's Socceroos World Cup players, Tim Cahill, Lucas Neill and Harry Kewell pose for team photo. Photo / APJOHANNESBURG - Australia was the first squad to arrive for the World Cup when it touched down at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday. The Socceroos, one of the first teams to qualify, arrived after dark at South Africa's main international airport in Johannesburg - and were the first to test the special arrival facility constructed by the airport for World Cup squads. Teams arriving in South Africa have dedicated arrival facilities, where they will be processed away from regular passengers and fans because of security concerns. The 28 Australian players - five of whom will not make the final squad - flew in a chartered jet from Melbourne. The squad, including English Premier League stars Tim Cahill and Mark Schwarzer, captain Lucas Neill and former Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell, posed briefly for TV cameras and photographers before being whisked away by bus to their team base on the outskirts of Johannesburg. "We are pleased to welcome Australia as the first team to arrive in our country," said organizing committee chief executive Danny Jordaan, who was at the airport to welcome the squad. %3Cbody%3E%3Cdiv%20id%3D%22adDiv%22%3E%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A//ads.apn.co.nz/accipiter/adclick/CID%3Dfffffffcfffffffcfffffffc/aamsz%3D440X400/POS%3DPOS2/SR%3D1/acc_random%3D89653891228/pageid%3D9955244190/site%3DNZH/area%3DCAT.SOCCER.STY/keyword%3Dsoccer%20australia%20team%20arrive%20world%20cup%20fifa%20football%20international%20sport%20johannesburg%20squad%20touched%20tambo%20airport%20wednesday%20socceroos%20teams%20qualify%20arrived%20dark%20south%20africa%20main%20test%20special%20arrival%20facility%20constructed%22%20target%3D_top%3E%3Cimg%20src%3D%22http%3A//apn-images.adbureau.net/apn/accipiter/images/AE0.gif%22%20alt%3D%22%22%20border%3D0%20%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/div%3E %3Cbody%3E%3Cdiv%20id%3D%22adDiv%22%3E%3Cdiv%20style%3D%22display%3A%20none%3B%22%3ECCID%3A%2016375%3C/div%3E%0D%0A%3C%21--%20AMG%20Tag%20--%3E%0D%0A%3Cscript%20language%3D%22Javascript%22%3E%0D%0A%20%20amgdgt_p%3D%221974%22%3B%0D%0A%20%20amgdgt_pl%3D%22fdca14a1%22%3B%20%0D%0A%20%20amgdgt_t%20%3D%20%22i%22%3B%0D%0A%3C/script%3E%0D%0A%3Cscript%20type%3D%22text/javascript%22%20src%3D%22http%3A//cdn.amgdgt.com/base/js/v1/amgdgt.js%22%3E%3C/script%3E%0D%0A%0D%0A%3Cnoscript%3E%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A//ad.amgdgt.com/ads/%3Ft%3Dc%26c%3DKQPXb0%22%20target%3D%22_blank%22%3E%3Cimg%20src%3D%22http%3A//ad.amgdgt.com/ads/%3Ft%3Di%26f%3Dh%26p%3D1974%26pl%3Dfdca14a1%26c%3DKQPXb0%26rnd%3D89653891228%22%20width%3D300%20height%3D250%20border%3D%220%22%20/%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/noscript%3E%20%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%3C/div%3E CCID: 16375 "We all know that the stadiums are all ready, everything is in place and now the teams are finally here. More importantly though, our people are ready." Jordaan said. Australia's Dutch coach Pim Verbeek said: "I have been in this country about eight or nine times already and I have always enjoyed my stay here. "The most important thing for us is to win our first game. We have given ourselves plenty of time to prepare and acclimatize to the local conditions. The players will have to get used to the altitude and the few warm-up matches will help us a lot in achieving this," Verbeek said. Conditioning will be crucial for the Australians, who open their group campaign against three-time World Cup winner Germany in the coastal city of Durban on June 13, before traveling up to the high-altitude Rustenburg and Nelspruit to play Ghana and Serbia. Australia will warm up for the tournament with friendlies against Denmark and the United States, games which will take place after Verbeek has trimmed his squad to a final 23-man group ahead of the June 1 FIFA deadline. Earlier Wednesday, the Australian High Commission welcomed the team and said in a statement "Australia is proud that the Socceroos will be the first team to arrive in South Africa." It also said Australia's Minister for Sport, Kate Ellis, is scheduled to visit for the tournament. Brazil is the next team to arrive, on Thursday morning, with Denmark and Argentina due this weekend and the US expected on Monday. Spain, the final team to touch down in South Africa, is planning to fly in on June 11 - the same day as the opening game between the host nation and Mexico. |

Ike Uche, Anichebe out Posted: 2010-05-31 13:08 Ike Uche and Victor Anichebe are the two high profile casualties of Lars Lagerback's cull as he named his 23 players for the World Cup on Monday. Joining the duo are Peter Utaka, Onyekachi Apam, Brown Ideye and the two domestic players Bassey Akpan and Terna Suswan. The Swede announced the list to the players at a meeting where he called the affected players together and explained to them why they were being dropped. "He called them together and explained that time was too short, and that injuries were also a factor," Super Eagles Media Officer Idah Peterside told KickOffNigeria.com. More importantly, Peterside said Lagerback assured the players that in the unlikely event of injury to any player on the 23-man squad before kickoff, he would look no farther than that seven-man group. The contingent leaves for South Africa later on Monday. Nigeria squad Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Hapoel Tel Aviv, Israel), Dele Aiyenugba (Bnei Yehuda, Israel), Austin Ejide (Hapoel Petach Tikvah, Israel) Defenders Taye Taiwo (Marseille, France), Elderson Echiejile (Rennes, France), Chidi Odiah (CSKA Moscow, Russia), Joseph Yobo (Everton, England), Ayodele Adeleye (Sparta Rotterdam, Netherlands), Rabiu Afolabi (SV Salzburg, Austria), Danny Shittu (Bolton Wanderers, England) Midfielders: Kalu Uche (Almeria, Spain), Dickson Etuhu (Fulham, England), John Mikel Obi (Chelsea, England), Sani Kaita (Alaniya, Russia), Haruna Lukman (AS Monaco, France), Yusuf Ayila (Dynamo Kiev, Ukraine) Strikers: Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Everton, England), Nwankwo Kanu (Portsmouth, England), Obafemi Martins (Wolfsburg, Germany), John Utaka(Portsmouth, England), Victor Obinna Nsofor (Malaga, Spain), Osaze Odemwingie (Lokomotiv Moscow, Russia), Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi (TSG Hoffenheim, Germany) |

Bafana thump Guatemala 5-0 Posted: 2010-05-31 22:31 It was a night of records in Polokwane on Monday as Bafana Bafana skipper Aaron Mokoena celebrated winning his 100th international cap by leading his side to a record 5-0 win over Guatemala in a World Cup warm-up. The result will be a huge confidence boost for the team as goals from Katlego Mphela (two penalties), Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Surprise Moriri and Bernard Parker stunned the Central Americans. Bafana were awarded a terrible penalty decision by referee Ibrahim Chaibou from Niger, who adjudged Siphiwe Tshabalala's long-range effort to have struck Guatemalan defender Gustavo Cabrera on the arm. Whether it did or not is up for debate, but what is not is that the incident happened a yard outside the area, and at the very most should have been a free-kick. Mphela did not waste the gift and notched his 13th goal in Bafana colours, snatching the ball out of the hands of Teko Modise and converting from the spot. Mphela and Gonzalo Romero traded ambitious long-range free-kicks, before Letsholonyane scored his maiden international goal. Brilliant work from Lucas Thwala down the left saw him reach the byline and his chip into the box fell perfectly for the Kaizer Chiefs man, who volleyed into an empty net with visiting goalkeeper David Guerra out of position. Tshabalala shot wide from just outside the area, while Mphela dallied on a shot and saw his effort deflected wide. If he had pulled the trigger quicker, he might have scored. Bafana did extend their lead three minutes into the second half when substitute Moriri picked up the lose ball just outside the six-yard box from Mphela's driving run and cross and tapped home with the Guatemalan defence at sixes and sevens. The referee decided to level the score on a the poor penalty award count when he awarded the visitors a soft spot-kick after adjudging Thwala to have hand-balled, when the ball looked to have struck his chest. But Moeneeb Josephs saved Guillermo Ramirez's poor effort and the score remained 3-0 to the home side. Pienaar should have got a spot-kick minutes later when he was clattered in the area, but strangely this time the referee said no, but shortly afterwards he again pinned Cabrera for hand-ball in the box from Kagisho Dikgacoi's shot. This award looked correct and Mphela coolly slotted home from the spot and Bafana matched their best-ever result in international football. Steven Pienaar's brilliant free-kick from 35-yards with 20 minutes left slammed against the post with Guatemalan substitute goalkeeper David Guerra beaten, denying him a spectacular goal. But that spectacular goal did come from Parker, who picked up the ball on the sideline, beat two defenders and hit a shot from 25-yards across the goalkeeper and into the top corner. Line-Ups: South Africa: Moeneeb Josephs – Anele Ngcongca (Bryce Moon 46th), Bongani Khumalo (Matthew Booth 64th), Aaron Mokoena, Lucas Thwala – Reneilwe Letsholonyane (Macbeth Sibaya 46th), Kagisho Dikgacoi – Teko Modise (Surprise Moriri 46th), Steven Pienaar, Siphiwe Tshabalala (Bernard Parker 70th) – Katlego Mphela (Siyabonga Nomvete 64th) Guatemala: David Guerra (Marvin Barrios 46th) – Jaimes Vides, Henry Medina, Carlos Gallardo, Gustavo Cabrera – Carlos Castillo, Gonzalo Romero (Transito Montepeque 46th), Aloner Trigueros, Mario Rodrigues (Minor López 73rd) – Guillermo Ramirez (Wilber Caal 61st), Sergio Guevara |

US squad touches down in SA Posted: 2010-05-31 19:19 The US World Cup team has touched down at the OR Tambo airport after a 17-hour flight. After leading his squad off the plane at the O.R. Tambo airport, coach Bob Bradley immediately picked out the team's opening game against England as a chance to make an impression on the tournament. Bradley says "there has been a lot of attention on our first game with England," and called the June 12 matchup "a great opportunity for us." Like the other teams who have arrived in South Africa, the Americans were greeted by armed task force members who surrounded the plane on the tarmac in a display of heavy security at the airport |

'Disappointed' Benni will now support Benni McCarthy says he will now throw his full weight behind supporting Bafana Bafana after he was omitted from the final 23-man squad for the World Cup. McCarthy, along with Bryce Moon, Rowen Fernandez, Innocent Mdledle and Franklin Cale, missed the cut this morning. And while the West Ham United striker is obviously disappointed, he is not overly surprised. "The final squad is a tough call for any coach to make and I am sure it was not made without heartache," McCarthy says. "My fitness level came into question after weeks recovering from my knee injury, but the coach still believed in me, as did I and the rest of the team , and I am grateful for that. "No-one's place in the final squad is a given. We all gave it our best and pushed ourselves to our limits to make the cut. In the end it comes down to a head count. I am proud to have been given the privilege to have been capped in the South African national squad; unfortunately this time it was not to be. "All the players who made the national call-up should be proud; we did not fail, we just didn't make the final 23. We are still a part of the team, if not the squad. "We have a strong team that everyone will be proud of and I am in no doubt we will make our mark with the ground swell of support the team has been receiving of late. "If the carnival spirit of the Super 14 semi-final and Final is a measure of the united support we are to expect for Bafana, then I see us excelling. My role now is to join in that support." |

Denmark go down to Socceroos Bafana Bafana’s last World Cup warm-up opponents Denmark narrowly lost 1-0 to Australia in an international friendly at the Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort today. Pim Verbeek’s Socceroos did little to dispel their reputation for unimaginative and conservative football with a defence-centred performance, though in truth Denmark offered little in the way of creativity themselves. Preservation appeared to be the main aim of two sides who wouldn’t want to have risked injuries to their key men just a few days out from the start of the tournament in South Africa, though both Verbeek and his counterpart Martin Olson named strong line-ups for the clash. It was the Danes who were more impressive in the first half and made a more comfortable start to the match on the ball, recycling possession effectively but failing to ever really break down a Socceroo back-line marshalled by Lucas Neill and Craig Moore. Lars Jacobsen’s speculative driven free kick in the fourth minute was one of the few highlights, Mark Schwarzer watching as it swerved wildly past his right upright. Australia were virtually non-existent as an attacking threat during the opening period, relying on a conspicuously direct route to goal and looking to construct attacks through towering target man Josh Kennedy. Yet his aerial presence was dealt with comfortably by Denmark’s central defensive pairing of Daniel Agger and Per Kroldrup, who were untroubled save for a couple of nervy moments caused by the quality of Scott Chipperfield’s delivery before the end of the first half. A raft of changes at half time didn’t help the flow of the game and it continued in much the same pattern as the first, Denmark far more effective at keeping the ball for long periods despite their lack of incision up front. Christian Poulsen’s half-volley from outside the penalty area represented their most notable attempt on goal, with Schwarzer palming the ball away strongly. It was perhaps typical of a dour match that the decisive goal should be scored by the out-of-touch Kennedy, who out-muscled Agger before hooking a bouncing ball beyond goalkeeper Stephan Andersen in the 71st minute. |
