Straight to the Point: inter family marriage and the risk of up normal kids.
Straight to the Point will be a weekly Column which will cover many issues except politics.

For many societies in the world specially in Africa and Asia, inter family marriage has been a norm for centuries but lately it has become clear that the risk out weighs the benefit of keeping family close. While Islam allows inter family marriage, however, growing evidence has shown that children born to parents from the same extended family face a higher risk of developing a range of health problems.

Marrying your first cousin or even extended family member might seem an easy option as well as keeping the family cohesion but it has its downside, If the family had a history of diabetics, cancer or an other genetically transmitted disease and each of you is carrying that gene, let us say a probability of 0.2 then it will multiply and the risk will reach 0.35 or 0.4 or a risk of 40%. If both parents are from the same breed, they both have a higher chance of having the same mutation, which may show up in the offspring.

In Somalia we had something similar which we call “Eediis laga dhal” which means if your father had not married your mother , she would have been you aunt(eedadaa), I have been observing a group of eedadood laga dhal, the number of stupidity is high in them when you compare with the children who have parents from different family/ geographical areas. I m not a scientist but it seems this culture of inbreeding is causing a major problem in our society. The Number of silly kids or those who have got behavioral disorder has increased for the last decade.
There are groups who are from Indian Sub continent who are all but extinct after centuries of unbroken intermarriage.

Genetic disorders
“The offspring of consanguineous relationships are at greater risk of certain genetic disorders. These autosomal recessive disorders occur in individuals who are homozygous for a particular recessive gene mutation. This means that they carry two copies (alleles) of the same gene. Except in certain rare circumstances (new mutations or uniparental disomy) both parents of an individual with such a disorder will be carriers of the gene. Such carriers are not affected and will not display any signs that they are carriers, and so may be unaware that they carry the mutated gene. As relatives share a proportion of their genes, it is much more likely that related parents will be carriers of an autosomal recessive gene, and therefore their children are at a higher risk of an autosomal recessive disorder. The extent to which the risk increases depends on the degree of genetic relationship between the parents; so the risk is greater in mating relationships where the parents are close relatives, but for relationships between more distant relatives, such as second cousins, the risk is lower (although still greater than the general population). A 1994 study found a mean excess mortality with inbreeding at the first cousin level of 4.4%.”

The number of those who have behavioral disorder has indeed increased. It is quite disturbing for the part of the parents to see their children suffer from such disorder. What I could suggest to those who experience such suffering is to send their kids to wilderness treatment program. This would help them to regain control of their children's behavior.
