My observations firstly is that this is one side of the story,comment deserve.However the biu community in bornu are predominantly Christian l have friend from there,secondly the chiboko are part of this community that is why you here that the kidnapped girls are converted because almost all of them Christians

Controversy is trailing the alleged conversion of a Muslim girl to Christianity as the girl’s father was said to have requested the intervention of members of the State Security Service (SSS) who allegedly arrested the girl’s male friend, Engineer Simput Eagles Dafup in Plateau State.


Daily Trust gathered that Nabila Umar Sanda, 18, and daughter of a traditional title holder in Biu, Borno State was reported to have been abducted in Abuja on December 1, 2017.

Unable to reach Nabila, who finished from Air Force Comprehensive College, Jos and a 200 Level student of Mass Communication at the Bingham University in Nasarawa State, her father was said to have reported to the SSS that his daughter was missing following which she was traced to the house of one Pastor Jerry Datim in Jos.


However, Datim told Daily Trust on phone that Nabila had converted to Christianity while at Bingham University and had met Dafup, a lecturer, in Ghana four years ago on a flight to Dubai.

The pastor said Nabila had recently reconnected with Dafup who was visiting Jos for the Christmas break and expressed her intentions to fully convert to Christianity.

Pastor Jerry further explained that though Nabila’s father was aware of her intention to convert, he had said it was unacceptable by him.

“After they assaulted my family, I took the matter to the Plateau State Administrative Secretary of JNI, Sheikh Abdulazeez Yusuf who was unhappy with the development and arranged a meeting with the SSS. Even at the SSS office, when they asked why I didn’t take the girl to the police station, it was the JNI that answered by telling them that we have been working together to resolve such issues without involving security.”

Dafup’s mother, Lydia Istifanus Dafup yesterday in a press conference said her son had been tortured before taken away and pleaded for his release.


So...it seems that

1.The girl converted, and fearing the wrath of her parents, ran to the house of a pastor to escape her parents wrath.

2.The girl's pa is aware and opposed to her conversion.

3.Seems like the Pastor and the JNI...umbrella body for Muslims in the North...were trying to reach a settlement...when

4.The girl's father reports to the DSS that his daughter has been KIDNAPPED.(Note...he said kidnapped)

5.DSS is investigating the case as a KIDNAP case, not as a forced conversion case.

6.And the pastor and JNI are not happy...they were working out a solution that would have resolved the thing sans law...but the girl's pa has decided to involve the law.

So, we can safely conclude that

1.The DSS is not an Islamist agency....they are looking at it as a case of KIDNAP...due to misrepresentation by the girl's father.

2.The girl is legally an adult...she is free to convert to any religion really.

3.The conversion thing...is very controversial. Like i have said....we have to make conversion of minors to any religion illegal...but once you are 18...it should be legal.

4.A lot of bitterness in this case arises from tales of Christian girls who were 'converted' to Islam...some of whom did it willingly i must add..but there were cases of duress too. In my opinion, the Law has to be enforced.And conversion really is not a 'game'.....except in Nigeria where everyone is competing for a national cake,

NABILA SANDA GALADIMA (daughter of ALHAJI UMAR SANDA GALADIMA, The Galadima of Biu). A 19 years old (14th November 1999) Bingham University Mass Communication student who got converted from Islam to Christianity, and was long persecuted for that. She made headlines early 2018 when The father used his influence to unlawfully arrest her through the Department of Secret Service (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA) & Nigerian Army. Nabila in April 2018 released some videos on Facebook (https://web.facebook.com/nabila.galadima) explaining her ordeal and how terrible she was treated for no crime committed except for converting to Christianity.
On 1st September 2018, she showed on her Facebook page evidence of DSS attempting to unlawfully arrest her – after many unsuccessful tracking of her location by hacking her Facebook account. She also shared some dead threats issued on her. Her life and that of Simput has been in danger, and they for more than a year now have been running for their lives.
Nabila had escaped the trite strategy of her pursuers by going abroad for furthering of education. Whiles in school, the institution requested for her WASSCE original certificate which demanded she comes back to Nigeria for it. In the face of danger and fear for harm, she contacted a Reverend, John Ekunnusi to accompany her (for security reasons) to Jos for her WASSCE Cert. He couldn't but asked his younger brother (Jamiu Ekunnusi) to help. Unfortunately, Jamiu had been seeking such a chance to whisk/snatch her away to her family for re-Islamization. He was Contracted by her Parents to get her. He cunningly used this opportunity to execute his heartless, brutal assignment.
He tried raping her, but he couldn't succeed, he then hurriedly handed her to Police & The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) around MazaMaza Park, Lagos. Since March 2019 till date; it's 90 days now, she's unlawfully detained whiles her studies is forcefully on hold. No justice for her... She's a prisoner of her faith in a democratic country like Nigeria where freedom of religion is constitutional.

Religion has brought a great divide directly affecting Nigeria politically, economically, and even socially. In the days of the old, conversion from one religion to another was no news; it had no extra attention, mellow-drama or community tension. Religious intermarriage was overlooked and well attended to by family and friends from mainly the two pronounced religions in the country (Christianity and Islam). But now, the story is way different as such decisions always come with death threats. However, a few people still dare the path.

In Nigeria, the constitution is very clear about taking such decisions into action. In the 1999 Constitution as amended,

Section 38 (1) of the constitution and Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Right, provides: “Every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance.”

Section 35 (1) Every person shall be entitled to his personal liberty and no person shall be deprived of such liberty save in the following cases and in accordance with a procedure permitted by law.

Section 39 (1) Every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including the freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference.

Section 41 (1) of Constitution provides that: “Every Citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part thereof.
However, these laws have been abused, violated and relegated in Nigeria. There are many cases that prove my assertion true; when one goes into google for some information, they’re just at fingertips! Notwithstanding, the concentration here is on Nabila Sanda Galadima. She has been through a lot for the sake of her religious decision.

I wish Nigeria would learn to tolerate each other, and live in peace as our forefathers did.
