The ongoing Strike by Non Academic Staffs in Nigerian Varsities has crippled the activities of Universities in Nigeria.

Although some Universities have commenced Academic Activities albeit under strenuous conditions.

With the Disagreement bothering on issues of sharing formula for Earned Allowance released by the Federal Government last year, there seems to be no headway in resolving the crisis across various Varsities as the Federal Government has continued to keep Mum, while the Striking Workers say they still expect an invitation for a meeting to further discuss possible resolution of the issues that led to the strike.

The Public Relations officer of SSANU Abdussobur Salaam speaking with EDUCATION HERALD today, said the Striking Workers in Nigerian Varsities are still waiting for the Federal Government to call for another round of Negotiations.
He also said the Union is taking her time in waiting patiently for the reaction of the Federal Government after the last meeting of December 19 in Abuja. Abdussobur also noted that the liability on the strike lies with the Federal Government not the workers.

A visit to Obafemi Awolowo University, one the Institutions that has resumed shows that workers gather at the University Senate Building daily in continuation of their daily protest in form of the strike action.

The Federal Minister of State for Education, Anthony Nwuka represented the Federal Government during the last meeting with the striking workers.

EDUCATION HERALD had reported how Anthony Nwuka declined comment when contacted for how soon the issues surrounding the over a month long strike will be resolved.

While Local chapters have vowed to continue their strike actions except if the National Body asks that the strike be suspended, it remains to be seen how soon the strike will be called off especially with no clear path on when the Unions and the Federal Government will meet again to continue negotiations.

A student in one of the Nigerian Universities Folashade Adeola told EDUCATION HERALD that the strike has caused a lot of harm and not knowing the time of resumption is affecting her “The strike action has affected us and we Plead with the Federal Government to reach a concensus with the workers so things can move on”.
