British Airways flight grounded after cabin crew refused to fly because plane was crawling with bedbugs

A British Airways flight remained firmly on the ground after cabin crew walked out over an infestation of bedbugs.

The flight to Ghana was grounded at Heathrow Airport when staff on board refused to take off.

The crew walked off the plane just minutes before it was due to set off on its journey, leaving passengers stranded.

A source told The Sun: “The cabin crew saw bedbugs crawling over the seats – visible to the naked eye.

“They said it was unacceptable to work on that aircraft.”

A BA spokesperson confirmed the incident to Yahoo News UK, adding: “The comfort of our customers is paramount, so as soon as this very rare issue was identified at Heathrow, we immediately took the aircraft out of service for treatment.​“

The plane later took off four hours after it was due to take to the skies.

BA has previously suffered an invasion of bedbugs on a flight when a family flying from British Columbia to the UK claimed to have been bitten by the critters while on the flight.

The company said after the incident in October: “British Airways operates more than 280,000 flights every year, and reports of bed bugs onboard are extremely rare. Nevertheless, we are vigilant and continually monitor our aircraft.”
