The former World-best footballer and currently the President-elect of the Federal Republic of Liberia, George Weah, was sworn into office on Monday in Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia. The retired professional footballer who was a three-time African footballer of the year replaced Africa’s first elected female president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who is stepping down after two terms. It is the first democratic transfer of power in the West African state in more than 70 years. African Heads of states and former presidents, including Nigerian ex-president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdusalami Abubakar and other political personnel, Rochas Okorocha, the Imo State governor, Senate President Bukola Saraki graced the momentous event.
