ABUJA – A civil society group, Concerned Nigerians, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the advice given him by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo to refrain from contesting the 2019 presidential election.

It said the only way President Buhari can display any sort of love and patriotism for Nigeria that is on the verge of anarchy under his misrule is to bow-out of government in 2019.

In a statement signed Tuesday night by its convener, Deji Adeyanju, the group praised Obasanjo for speaking the truth, saying he spoke at no better time than now.

“We have read the statement written by former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, where he gave a withering assessment of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari with more than a sense of palpable relief that there are elders of this country who are willing to speak truth to power.

“In his statement, Chief Obasanjo stated the many obvious failings of the Buhari administration and their negative effects on all aspects of the Nigerian economy. We commend Chief Obasanjo for speaking the truth at a time when the Nigerian people are bearing the negative effects of the Buhari administration.

“We call on President Buhari to heed the advice given by Chief Obasanjo and refrain from contesting the 2019 presidential elections. This is the only way President Buhari can display any sort of love for a country that is creaking under the weight of his misrule.

“Anything short of this will lead to the Nigerian people delivering a withering and embarrassing defeat to the President Buhari next year. A word is enough for the wise,” the statement said.

Only if Bubu listens.... Na this fuel price and wahala be wetin dey pain me pass for this Bubu body. Him and that shortman pastor. Who won't think they meant well. They promised everything, sotey Buhari promise to fix refineries, jail corrupt persons, be for everybody and nobody, run only one term in office...... Name wetin den no promise? All natural scam, All my wash. Bubu no even dey used Pastor Osinbade phD save face at all. Cabal dem ti take over.. Hmm.

Now there's hike in price and reduction in quantity and quality of everything, nothing is working, nothing, not even the comatose refineries any longer, no single conviction for fraud in a fantastically corrupt nation, for over two years of administration.

In fact to listen to anything else from these guys is tantamount to heresy. I wonder how they plan to campaign sef come 3
2019.

Mind you, nothing concern me with PDP oo, don't get it twisted. They are both alike. But on the short.........Buhari must return to Daura oo

The earlier we make a detour and move towards our cannanland, the better for us. Bubu has nowhere he's taking us, other than Daura

It's in buhari's interest to leave in 2019. That's if he wants Nigeria to be saved.

This is not about the person of Buhari. This is about performance. Baba Obasanjo has not said anything new. His writer just came to Nairaland, compiled our ideas and rephrased it. That's all. If it took Buhari 16 years to become Nigeria's president, it definitely meant he probably has good intentions. But obviously good intentions alone does not necessarily translate into good governance. Buhari is in position to make history, if he refuses to re-contest. He'll be the first Nigerian president to keep to his word on that. He will shock the world just like Jonathan surprised him with a congratulatory call. But if he decides otherwise, then it will clearly imply that he doesn't love Nigeria. There has never been a time in Nigeria when everyone is so agitated. The break-point for me in Buhari's administration was his refusal to disclose how much loots were recovered, only to hear that they have started spending the funds. If you ask 50 people of their concerns about PMB's government, you will get atleast 20 to 30 different responses. Your don't struggle to see their misdeeds. As painful as it may seem, PMB knows the honorable thing to do. It will be disappointing if he doesn't.
Finally, watch as INVESTIGATION INTO CASES INVOLVING OBASANJO WILL COMMENCE SOON. QUOTE ME THEN. #myonekobo

What does Buhari need 2nd term for if not for greed and Personal interest? He has made history ( like OBJ) for being Military Head of State and Civilian President, he should be the Mandela of Nigeria quietly bow out and earn himself respect when the ovation is loudest.
The odds are against his reelection, those urging him to contest in 2019 dont mean him well & are mostly Northerners who wants to maintain power.

Firstly, age is not on his side. He is now slow and indecisive. One will even doubt he was ever a military man. Ageing has taken a toll on him.
Secondly, his health is failing him. Buhari is medically unfit to run the country. Forget the weight booster he is induced with, physically he is unfit and may very likely be unable to undergo the rigours of election campaigns.
Thirdly, the political dynamics that brought him to power in 2015 has changed drastically. Am not Yoruba, but take it or leave it...the South-west (especially Lagos) determine the way the Political pendulum swings in Nigeria since independence. Forget the Northern support for Buhari, there is no way Buhari would have defeated Goodluck in 2015 without the help of South west votes. Bola Tinubu made Buhari president., and am not too sure is willing to tow that lane in 2019 given recent happenings in the country. Besides, South west support for Buhari has badly been eroded. If South west do vote APC in 2019, they will only vote the APC governors and desist from voting APC President if it is Buhari.
Fourthly, Buhari has performed woefully in governance. He has shown he knows next to nothing in administration by the turn of events in the Petroleum Ministry he hijacked for himself. And worst still, there has been growing economic woes and Nigerians are not smiling.
Fifthly, The Fulani Herdsmen has not help his reelection bid at all. The killing sprees by Herdsmen nationwide and Buharis failure to deal with it has not gone down well with Nigerians. And worst still, his govt is planning to establish cattle colonies in States nationwide and this has given rise to suspicious of his intent and many middle belt states opposing his reelection.
And lastly, there seem to be growing condemnation of his govt and his style of leadership. Naaba Ghaali, top wig APC legislators, a couple of previous leaders and prominent Nigerians have distanced themselves from his bid. Even his wife and daughter have seemingly rejected his bid. Bola Tinubu has remarked that there is no automatic ticket for Buhari. And like him or hate him, but OBJ is a king maker, and he knows the Nigerian Politics well. And OBJ has spoken just as he spoke and Goodluck did not take advise.

The Odds are very much against Buhari, he should majestically bow out in 2019.

It seems all BMC have ran away leaving only you to face the Wailing Wailers, no one would wish to do your kind of job right now.
Was there no resigning option in your contract letter?
